This car was wrecked in 1971 with slightly over 14,000 miles on it by the original owner. The damage was to the right front for the most part, although there was some damage to the lower right rear.
I purchased it from the 2nd or 3rd owner in the early 1980s. It came with a second birdcage front end, a 2nd block and crank, a 2nd head, and a bonnet (ostensibly from another single car). The crankcase had a hole in it and the timing framework was damaged. There was little or no rust at the time. I replaced the damaged birdcage, crankcase, and timing chain brackets. When I sanded down the bonnet, I discovered that it was an amalgam of SI and SII parts. The left fender was SI and the right fender was SII. The back of the cowl was SI with the front wider opening from an SII, grafted on with rivets and a strip of metal. There must have been 25 pounds of bondo covering up this mess. By dint of circumstances, I was forced to forego further restoration and it has since suffered mightily from rust (floor pans, rockers, etc). I still intend to restore it, although to what level I am uncertain. I wish to drive it. There is a shop in Maryland who will redo the tub for something around $20K, if I cannot undertake it myself. They would also redo the bonnet for an additional fee. I may try to fix it myself and fall back on them if I fail. I can do all of the mechanical, electrical, and interior work myself. This car remains my dream.
