    Car on BaT

    Auction description:

    36k Miles Shown

    4.2-Liter Inline-Six

    Four-Speed Manual Transmission

    Golden Sand Paint

    Tan Leather Upholstery

    15" Knock-Off Wire Wheels

    Black Soft Top

    Air Conditioning

    Service Records

    BMIHT Certificate

Private Party or Dealer: Private Party

    Lot #195169

This 1970 Jaguar XKE Series II roadster was acquired by the prior owner in 2007 following approximately 35 years of storage, and it was subsequently refurbished, including a repaint in Golden Sand. The car was acquired by the current owner in 2015, and the 4.2-liter inline-six was rebuilt three years later. Suspension bushings were replaced in 2021, while more recent work in 2024 consisted of replacing the battery, clutch slave cylinder, and exhaust manifold gaskets. It is equipped with a four-speed manual transmission, a limited-slip differential, a black soft top, four-wheel disc brakes, 15″ wire wheels, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and air conditioning. This XKE roadster is now offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, service records, a car cover, and a clean California title in the owner’s name.

Finished from the factory in Pale Primrose Yellow, the car was repainted in Golden Sand during the aforementioned refurbishment. Exterior equipment includes a replacement black soft top, sealed-beam open headlights, a driver-side mirror, wraparound chrome bumpers, bright trim, a louvered clamshell hood, and dual exhaust outlets.

The 15″ wire wheels are secured by rounded knock-offs and are mounted with 205/60 Cooper Cs4 Touring tires. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors. The control arm bushings and sway bar bushings were replaced in 2021.

The cabin features bucket seats that were reupholstered in tan leather along with a color-coordinated center console, door panels, and carpets. Interior appointments include a locking glovebox, air conditioning, and a heater.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline as well as an analog clock and gauges for voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 35k miles, approximately 3,200 of which were added under current ownership.

The 4.2-liter inline-six was factory equipped with dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and rated at 246 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque when new. The engine was rebuilt and the carburetors overhauled in 2018 by Carlsbad British Motors, and the distributor assembly was replaced at that time. The choke cable and a fuel line were replaced in 2022, and work in 2024 involved replacing the battery, tuning the carburetors, resurfacing the exhaust manifolds, and installing replacement exhaust manifold gaskets.

Engine stamping 7R11778-9 a corresponding number is listed on the BMIHT certificate.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The rear end was resealed in 2018 and the clutch slave cylinder was replaced in 2024.

The Jaguar Heritage certificate shows the factory colors and serial numbers along with a build date of March 18, 1970.
