Ebay item 2/4/13 cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jaguar-ETYPE-XKE-FHC-1966-/321067130701
Current bid $20,100 reserve not met, 2 bids 6 days left in auction.
Sellers description:
Just when you thought no more garage finds would turn up, here is a black plate California Jaguar EType series 1 4.2 Fixed Head Coupe, it's been sitting in a lock-up in Los Angeles since 1981. It was originally Opalescent light blue but, as was the fashion in the 70's, its been color changed to burgundy.
Both front and rear black license plates are included along with various receipts, repair manuals and a toolroll which looks virtually all there to me, also all of the original books in the proper plastic wallet, correct jack and many receipts from the late 70's.There is a registration document from 1982, plus the title is the original small pink slip style
Body shell
The body shell is original and very solid, panel fit is generally excellent, the only rust I can find is in the lower footwell panels forward of the front seats. The original floors, jacking points, rockers, wheel arches and trunk floor are very strong and show no signs of rust at all. Under the front hood the bulkhead is original and again solid, the frame rails are blue as you can see, although the left side seems to have been replaced and the bulhead mounting area there shows some dents and damage although again there is no rust. The bonnet hanging frame, picture frame and all suspension are complete and excellent.
Motor
The motor is the correct one with corresponding block and head numbers. When I got the car back to my shop I pulled all of the plugs and put oil down the barrels before truning the motor over by hand. The oil pressure gauge was broken and so I replaced it with a new one from SNG Barrett, also I replaced the plugs and the thermostat housing. In starting the motor we turned it over on the starter and used starting fluid, it starts and runs well with excellent oil pressure and after about 10 minutes of running it now makes no smoke and has no undue noise, it sounds great. The carbs will need to be properly rebuilt and the fuel system gone through of course, including boiling the old gas tank and flushing the gas lines. All ancilaries appear complete and correct, the only thing I've found missing is the air cleaner and triangular snorkel.
Interior
The interior appears original, the dash top is without cracks or damage, the instruments are complete and bright, all switches are intact, the steering wheel is nice. The seats look as though they come from a later car, most likely a series 2, the door panels are correct as is the rest of the interior and apart from the seat bases all is in pretty nice original shape, including the West of England cloth headliner.
This is an excellent original Black Plate California car to restore, it's very solid, motor runs well, brakes and all ancillary systems will need to be gone through before use.
