    Auction 22724:
    The Beaulieu Sale
    Collectors' Motor Cars & Motorcycles
    5 Sep 2015 13:00 BST
    Beaulieu, National Motor Museum

Sold new in Canada, this stunning Series 3 was bought from CMC Bridgnorth Shropshire in 2007 having been imported from the USA by them circa 1996. CMC then undertook a total 'ground upwards' restoration, which was completed in 2002 and is documented on a CD containing in excess of 300 photographs. By 2009 it was apparent that the car's running gear required a major overhaul, which was undertaken over the next three years and involved the incorporation of a number of upgrades. These included removal of the original North American-specification engine and its replacement with a 6.0-litre V12RS engine built by Brian Ball. This engine is fitted with a 'Le Mans' fuel injection system provided by Owen Developments of Kingston Bagpuize, Oxfordshire. In addition, the existing Toyota gearbox was replaced with a Getrag five-speed 'box, mated to paddle-shift clutch to cope with the engine's 400bhp.

The suspension has been up-rated with Öhlins adjustable shock absorbers to the rear and Koni to the front, while the rear axle has been changed to a 2.88:1 final drive ratio (from 3.54:1), the works being carried out by Jaguar engineer, Brian Ball. Further upgrades include twin radiator cooling fans, air-conditioning (now situated in the rear seat box) and improved headlights. The original Jaguar convertible hood and frame are new, and the car also comes with an original colour-coded factory hardtop (supplied by CMC). Other noteworthy features include knock-on wire wheels and Recaro seats trimmed in biscuit leather and Alcantara. The smaller upgrades are too numerous to mention. Finished in Opalescent Green, the car retains its original bodywork, interior instruments and dashboard, giving this much enhanced example the appearance of a well presented and better-than-new standard Series 3 Jaguar E-Type. Accompanying documentation consists of the aforementioned CD of photographs, sundry restoration invoices, Jaguar/Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate, current MoT and a V5C registration document.

The aesthetic and technical specification is impressive. The car even has a professionally-fitted air conditioning system.

Its handful of British keepers have used it regularly, but sparingly. Recent work included £7,000 of bodywork repairs by CMC. Since 2020 it has received a new clutch, brake master cylinder, fuel lines, electrical work, gauges refurbished, steering rack refurbishment, new Avon tyres - costing £1,200 alone - and regular servicing to May 2024.

It is in superb condition, which is confirmed by a voluntary MOT to April 2025, which contains no advisories. The car has been professionally fitted with air conditioning and is supplied with a very rare factory hard top in matching colour.

This is a very tastefully trimmed car. Outside there is the classic BRG metallic paintwork, inside a complementary tan leather cabin with some neat details like a suede dash top and a high end stereo system.

It is in very good condition across the exterior and interior. It was restored between 1996 and 2002 by CMC of Bridgnorth, widely regarded as one of the best and most experienced E-Type restorers in the country. Recent attention to the bodywork by CMC has kept it in fine fettle while the attractive interior, with its uprated sports seats, is a very inviting place to be. A recent black fabric roof in good order and a rare factory hard top complete the sense of a well loved car.

    The Mechanics

6 Litre V12 Fuel Injected Engine producing approx 335 BHP

Uprated with 'Le Mans' fuel injection by Owen Developments

Upgraded to Getrag 5spd manual gearbox

Uprated suspension with adjustable Ohlins units on rear and Konis to front

    2.88: 1 rear axle

Uprated cooling system with twin fans

Very tidy and well kept engine bay

Regularly serviced to May 2024 irrespective of mileage

No mechanical or running gear advisories on current MOT

No reports of running or driving issues

Jaguar’s Series 3 E-Type arguably made the car what it was always meant to be: a smooth, effortless GT.

This car firmly continues that evolution with some well-considered upgrades. The engine is a 6L 'V12RS' unit developed by ex-Jaguar engineer Brian Ball and fitted with Owen Developments' 'Le Mans; fuel injection system. It is good for 400bhp. Suspension is by adjustable Ohlins dampers at the rear and Konis at the front. The transmission is a Getrag 5spd unit and there is a 2.88:1 rear axle. The result is surely one of the best-sorted E-Type V12s currently on the market.

This is a very well-sorted car. With no reported issues and a long, advisory-free MOT, it is ready to drive.
