Sellers description:
The color is called "Sand Green". This car has been owned by three drivers, the original guy was a dentist who lived in Oregon. He gave it to his daughter who went to Northwesern University, near Chicago. My late buddy bought it but never drove it and owned it for 11 years. I have had it for 4 years now. My wife says the Jag has to go!
This car is a runner driver. I have done a few upgrades to it. Originally, it had an automatic transmission, but since it leaked thru the main seal, I replaced it with a CJ5, (Dan's Classic Jaguar, TX). This transmission has made all the difference to enjoying this car. It shift smoothly and perfectly, with the same ratios as the original 4 spd that some had. But this one has an overdrive gear that translates to 700 RPM less in top gear. The conversion included a new clutch etc. and it has worked well for 3 years. The interior finish is still the automatic center console + custom radio bracket / console. See pictures, it looks great with the modern Kenwood HD radio purchased at Best Buy in the last 2 years. The I pod cord comes out in the center console under the lid. It has a full capable (MP3 etc) CD player and berillium magnet full range speakers in a custom enclosure in the back. The stereo cranks very loud and clear with no amps or subs.
Another important upgrade is the insulation on the floor and firewall. These cars were apparently designed for cooler weather than America! I also added an Aluminum race car radiator, which move the temp gauge down a notch. Overall, this car has never failed to start and run, never left me walking and is a whole lot of fun to drive!
Caution, this car is not stealth, police radar does pick it up!
Caution, if you buy this car, you will fall in love with it.
What does not work yet -
Speedometer
I sent it to Nisonger and had it rebuilt, but the lower elbow breaks on the cable. With a new trans, new cable and 2 new elbows, it broke again anyway, not sure on this.
Air Conditioning
Was blowing cold and then smoked the air conditioning clutch. Freon and compressor, filter, evaporator and condensor all hold pressure, needs AC clutch changed.
Washer Wipers
Wipers work, washer makes pump run but there are no hoses going to the squirter thing. Never really an issue for me.
This car has been a rolling restoration. Many issues have been addressed and many remain. I have not tried to keep this original, just original looking with modern additions. Speedo does not work, so mileage is not reliable. All hoses have been changed to Kevlar, alternator changed, brake master replaced, on and on. I have all the original stuff including the Automatic Transmission and radio etc etc if someone wants to make it a show car, but for this price and in this reliable condition, I say drive it! There are many flaws in this cars as shown in pics, minor chips and dings, the usual for a 37 year old car that drives. The next thing I was going to do was to reupholster the seats ( Has new carpets). Tire are one way corvette style "V" rated tires. I took it to 126 MPH (a personal record) and it runs smooth as silk, even up there. I approached 4500 RPM with the 5 speed!
