This 1970 Jaguar XKE Series II 2+2 is a non-running project that was purchased 19 years ago by the seller, who initiated a refurbishment that has since stalled. Work included repainting the exterior white and over-boring the 4.2-liter inline-six in 2009, and the engine has not been reinstalled. Equipment includes a black leather interior, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, air-conditioning components, and 15″ knock-off wire wheels. A four-speed manual transmission, twin Zenith-Stromberg carburetors, and a triple carburetor setup are included in the sale. This XKE is now offered at no reserve with model literature, partial service records, removed and spare parts, and a Virginia title.
Body work during the seller’s ownership reportedly including patching the quarter panel in front of the right-rear wheel as well as replacing the spare tire compartment floor. The car has been repainted white, and the hood is not attached. The front and rear chrome bumpers are removed and included in the sale along with window glass and assorted trim pieces.
The 15” wire wheels are secured with Jaguar-stamped knock-off hubs and wear Pirelli tires. A full-size spare is stored beneath the rear storage area floor. Braking is handled by four-wheel discs.
Worn and split black leather upholstery is present on the seats and is joined by a matching black dashboard and door panels. The transmission tunnel and center console have been removed, and air conditioning components are fitted. Additional equipment includes a dash-mounted Smiths analog clock, a locking glove box, and manual crank windows. The seller notes that spare headliner fabric is included in the sale.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer as well as centrally mounted auxiliary gauges indicating battery voltage, oil pressure, water temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows just under 49k miles, fewer than 100 of which were added by the seller. True mileage is unknown.
The replacement inline-six and four-speed manual transmission were removed from the car in 2009 and are included in the sale. Twin Zenith-Stromberg carburetors, as well as a triple carburetor setup, are also included, and the seller notes that a body putty repair patch is present beneath the battery mount.
The engine short block and cylinder head were rebuilt in 2009 by Performance Counts Automotive of Farmville, Virginia. Service records show that the block was bored .030” over, the deck was trued, and the short block was reassembled using replacement components including ARP bolts. Additional assembly of the engine is required.
