Description:
Chassis no: PIR 42411
This superb example, was built for a noted Jaguar collector at enormous cost. The vehicle was commissioned in 1989 at a time when such a car was very much a bespoke, one-off creation, rather than any form of series production car, and the car has an interesting aside to the start of its life, in that the aluminium work was completed by RS Panels and Grand Prix Metalcraft, who were at that time the manufacturers of replacement aluminium monocoques, not only for the likes of Lynx and Wingfield etc, but to be utilised in the rebuild and restoration of actual original D-Types and XKSS cars.
At the period that this car was manufactured, the two XKSS cars which had been rescued from Cuba were with Hall and Fowler being rebuilt, with the parts being supplied by RS and Grand Prix. As a result, when this car was built, it was built "alongside" the two original XKSSs being restored at that time. Therefore items such as the windscreen surrounds, bumpers, as well as the other major alloy components on the car, are the exact ones from the production series and as used on the original XKSSs from Cuba.
The steering wheel on the car is an original Jaguar D-Type item, the instrumentation all by John Marks, who is the world specialist on this subject, and supplies all the clocks for all the original cars in restoration. The interior is fully trimmed with Suffolk and Turley leather, the highest standard. The car even has the correct Dunlop six-pot calibre brakes etc, and a close-ration all synchromesh Jaguar gearbox, which was supplied for the project in 1989 directly from John Pearson,
Subsequently, and as a result of all of this, the car became something of a celebrity when completed in that it took two or three years to finish. At the time the car was actually reviewed by Jaguar author Paul Skilleter etc. The project cost something in the region of £200,000 plus in 1989, and would be double that today.
We sold the car on behalf of the the owner to a gentleman from St Louis, Missouri.
After the St Louis owner, the car was sold to a Mr Bernard Keiser from Arizona, who in turn sold the car in 2002 to last Swiss owner,
Finished in dark metallic green with olive green leather interior, it is fitted with a recently rebuilt, race prepared engine breathing through the correct triple Weber 45 DCOE carburettors. Presented in superb condition, this highly evocative and very rapid Jaguar, a superbly executed recreation by the best such specialist in the business, represents a rare opportunity for the Jaguar connoisseur. Highly recommended.
