Car on BaT

bringatrailer.com/listing/1969-jaguar-e-type-series-ii-22-4/

Auction description:

Chassis: P1R42223

43k Miles Shown

Three-Speed Automatic Transmission

Black Paint

Red Leather Upholstery

15" Wire Wheels

Wood-Rimmed Steering Wheel

Philips Radio

Private Party or Dealer: Private Party

Lot #195183

This 1969 Jaguar XKE Series II 2+2 is a non-running project that has not been started in approximately 10 years. The car is said to have been stored in a pole barn near Chicago, Illinois, before being moved outdoors in 2023, and the seller acquired the vehicle in 2024 and relocated it to Indiana. Finished in black over red leather, the coupe is equipped with a 4.2-liter inline-six, a three-speed automatic transmission, a limited-slip differential, 15″ wire wheels, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and a Philips radio. This XKE 2+2 project is now offered with replacement Michelin tires, a replacement rear window, and a clean Indiana title in the seller’s name.

The car is finished in black, and exterior equipment includes wraparound chrome bumpers, bright trim, a louvered clamshell hood, dual side mirrors, and quad exhaust outlets. The rear-window glass is missing, and a replacement rear window will accompany the vehicle. The rear side-marker lamps are broken. Rust noted at the driver-side outer sill, near the battery mount, on the hood, and on the passenger-side fender along with other imperfections.

Chrome 15″ knock-off wire wheels with peeling finishes are mounted with dry-rotted Michelin tires.

The 2+2 cabin features seating surfaces upholstered in red leather along with a color-coordinated center console, door panels, and carpeting. Interior appointments include a Philips AM/FM radio, a locking glovebox, and a heater. Evidence of water intrusion is visible in the cabin.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline as well as an analog clock and gauges for voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 43k miles.

The 4.2-liter inline-six was factory equipped with dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and rated at 246 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque when new. The car has not been started in about 10 years, the seller tells us.

The three-speed automatic transmission is linked to a limited-slip differential.

The Indiana title omits the “BW” suffix. The data plate elsewhere in the engine compartment is heavily corroded

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
