Interesting that this car was seen in Belgium in 2007 and it's engine has been sitting in my barn in Michigan for close to 40 years. I will post photos in case someone needs the correct engine.

Car at auction 5/25

www.carandclassic.com/auctions/1961-jaguar-e-type-series-1-38-flat-floor-coupe-r ...

Auction description:

Very early ‘Flat Floor’ FHC car number 214

Race prepared by E-Type specialist Colin Perry in 2002

FIA registered competition GT car for GTS 7 FIA Class

Valid Historic Technical Passport for hill climb, rally and racing

Raced at European and UK circuits including Goodwood and Estoril

Competed well at 80th GRRC April 2023 Moss Trophy driven by Craig Davies

This is car number 214 of the LHD FHC Series 1 coupe run, which was built through 1964. It returned to the UK in 1995 and was extensively race-prepared by Colin Perry in 2002. For those new to Perry’s work, he is known as ‘E-Type Royalty’ because he previously owned chassis number 860004, the original ‘CUT 7' and ‘EE400' Equipe Endeavour Roadster, chassis number 850018.

The car later passed to well-known racer Peter Lanfranchi, who campaigned it alongside his brother and Barrie ‘Whizzo’ Williams at historic circuits across Europe. In 2017, this well-known car passed to John Young, who raced it at Goodwood and elsewhere.

In 2020, the car raced at Estoril in Portugal and then at the 80th GRRC meet in April 2023. It started 27th on the grid in the Moss Trophy, driven by Craig Davies, and achieved a very creditable 10th overall.

Finished in popular Opalescent grey metallic with a blue leather interior, this matching-numbers Flat Floor presents very well, as you likely expected, given its illustrious keepers and provenance. It comes to market with a valid FIA Historic Technical Passport to 31st December 2026 and is eligible for the GTS 7 FIA Class, plus hill climb and rally and racing events. Alternatively, it could be used on the road as it carries UK registration paperwork.

Whether you approach this car for its noteworthy historic status, its racing pedigree or its elevated condition, this car is, quite frankly, magnificent. Certainly one for high-end collectors and historic racers not to miss.

The Condition

Attractive Opalescent Grey metallic paintwork in very good order

Restored and converted by model specialist Colin Perry in 2002

Owned by high-end collectors since so remains in very good order

Road legal car that looks factory standard from the outside as shown

Various racing decals fitted as shown

Well-kept chromework with a bright finish

Painted wire wheels

Blue leather interior reported to be in very good condition

Exterior lights and glasswork present well

There is good reason why the earliest E-Types are the most revered. These cars retained the pure aesthetics conceived by Malcolm Sayer and Sir William Lyons such as the fared in headlights and small rear lights over the bumper. These details were gradually lost after the first few thousand cars.

This car, of course, goes one better because it is one of the ultra-rare ‘flat floor’ models. Jaguar didn’t expect to sell many E-Types, so the early cars incorporate a number of intricate details that proved unsuitable for higher volume series production and were gradually phased out.

The term ‘flat floor’ is generally used to identify the first cars that retain all or most of these features. The reality is that only the very earliest of even these cars had all of the original details, because Jaguar quickly changed the specification as soon as production began.

All of which is a long-winded way of saying that this car is rather special. It was restored by Colin Perry in 2002 in the handsome shade of Opalescent Grey metallic with a blue leather interior. That work, as you might expect of such a well-regarded model specialist, was completed to a very high standard. It remains virtually unchanged, despite the car’s racing provenance, thanks to the diligent care of its subsequent collector-keepers.

The buyer is acquiring a historically significant E-Type that is presented at a very high level.

The Mechanics

3,781cc XK straight six engine

Correct R-prefix engine number

‘Moss’ 4spd manual gearbox

We understand that this car is a matching numbers example

Race-prepared by Colin Perry

Road-legal car

Carries appropriate FIA registration and Passports as detailed above

No reported running or driving issues

Factory records indicate that this car is a matching numbers example fitted with the correct ‘R’ prefix straight six 3.8L XK engine and ‘Moss’ four speed gearbox.

The car was extensively race prepared by Colin Perry in 2002. Since then it has been in the hands of well known historic racers who have maintained it correctly. Since 2023 it has been part of the current keeper’s high end collection and raced at GRRC April 2023 meet as detailed above. We understand the car to be in fine mechanical order with no issues for the buyer to attend to on purchase.
