Auction description:
Lot 66 - Osenat
1964 JAGUAR E-TYPE CABRIOLET 3.8L Chassis no. 880353 Delivered new by the Delecroix dealership in Paris Restored car Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate 100 000 / 120 000 French registration The Jaguar Type E was presented at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show. Media excitement was at its peak," the brand reminds us, "the short ride offered to journalists was such a hit that Jaguar's founder, Sir Williams Lyons, realized that one car was not enough. He ordered a test driver to leave immediately for the Jaguar workshops in Coventry and to return to Switzerland, at night, at the wheel of another E-Type". Legend also has it that Enzo Ferrari, discovering the Jaguar Type E for the first time, declared "This is the most beautiful car in the world". This sublime English car is an object of myth, legends, stories and memories. For many, their first encounter with such a machine has left an indelible impression. In fact, its sensual, sleek lines have led to its sanctification as a true art : the E-Type has a permanent place at New York's MOMA! Because it's the purest, the most authentic, the wildest too, the first production 3.8-liter E-Type is the most sought-after among collectors. Our car left the factory on October 18, 1963, before being delivered in Paris by dealer Charles Delacroix to Mr Chevalier on December 5 of the same year. It has remained in France ever since, before being restored in the 2000s. Today, the car is in excellent overall condition. Our test drive revealed a pleasant, torquey car.
