This car is definitely not sable. Sable was non-metallic. Looks like bronze.

This car was purchased new at British Motors, Monterey California by a merchant sea capitan named W. B. Laminisky. Garaged and used it very little for the sixteen years he owned it, 879725 was sold privately to it's present owner as a replacement for a beautiful brown 1974 XJ-6 after that car's untimely demise in 1980.
The car sold for $11,000 in the private party transaction,
Included in the extensive records for 879725 is the newspaper clipping of it's original owner's classified ad:
"Jaguar XKE 1964, Mint Condition, Original Owner, under 50k Miles, (408) 624-XXXX, August 9, 1980"
The original exterior was "Sand" and it was repainted (or actually re-laquered) as "Bronze" in approximately 1985. The "Light Tan" interior was reworked in the early nineties and is now a dark brown. Mechanically, the car is all original and unrestored. The bottom end of the engine has not seen the light of day since it's orginal date of manufacture.
This E-Type was painstakingly maintained (mechanically and cosmetically) by the present owner until his death in May 2004. It is now lovingly (if not quite as capably) cared for by the heirs most of whom still reside in Monterey/Carmel.

Wow, what a great history. And thanks for posting the period photo, "sand" is a relatively rare color and we don't have many examples of it!

I came across this car at Laguna Seca (at least I think it was this car - color year and ownership details seem to all match) in February this year when I was deciding whether or not to buy a 63 roadster. The owner (who was there with his young son) let me sit in the car which let me know I would be able to fit into the car. I sent out my deposit for my car the next day (878090 - no pictures up yet - but soon)

2011 saw the 50th Anniversary of the venerable E-Type. Monterey's "car week" was especially remarkable that year, with E-Types of every variety popping up in every place, from grocery lots to hotel portico's to Scenic Drive to the 18th green at Pebble Beach for the Concourse D'Elegance. Car 879725 shared the spotlight as a featured entrant at THE QUAIL: A MOTORSPORTS GATHERING., and was the main photo in a Yahoo! Sports article:

The 50th Anniversary of the E-Type Award went to Ron Laurie and his 1961 E-Type.

Great to see this car on the road ! Saw this car at the Cantina and had a very nice chat with the owner. The car was originally imported in to SF at 1200 Van Ess Ave, prepped and shipped for sale to my Uncle Jack Flaherty's BMC dealership in Monterey. Jack raced a Lister Jag for BMC and was very involved in the entire racing program at BMC. He was part of the original SCRAMP Board of Directors. Typically one of the Sale persons would take a perspective customer in the E Types thru del Monte Forest . This car is an excellent example of an E Type that has been well driven and cared for.
