Sale Le Mans Classic 2022 - 02 july 2022 /Lot 213 1963 Jaguar Type E 3.8L Roadster
Austrian title
Chassis No. 878961
Engine No. R4079-9
- Interesting series 1
- Much work done in the early 1990s
- The original version
As confirmed by its Jaguar Heritage certificate, this elegant 3.8L Roadster left the factory on 23 January 1963 and was sold new in New York on 4 February the same year. It was then in "opalescent dark green" with beige upholstery and with a "sand" colored hood. This interesting Series 1 was imported from California in early 1990 by an enthusiast in Hamburg, Germany. The latter then began the restoration, as can be seen by an impressive folder of invoices. The engine and gearbox were overhauled by specialists DJB Performance in December 1991, and many parts were replaced. The body was completely repainted in its current midnight blue livery and the tan leather upholstery was restored. The soft top, matching the upholstery, is in good condition, without any tears. A circuit breaker was installed under the dashboard whose mile counter was replaced by one reading in km/h. The Jaguar manufacturer's plate has been replaced by a new one on which only the chassis number has been transferred. The chrome is in good condition and the four Dunlop SP Sport tires were replaced in 2014. The 3.8 series 1 roadster version corresponds to the original model of the Type E and is therefore an essential in all major collections.
