Seller's description:
Extraordinary Driver Condition ! Build Date September 26, 1961 Chassis Number 875618 Early Production assembly with Flat Floors and Welded Hood louvers , Double ( Forked ) Trunk Hinges among the early production details that were distinct to the early low volume Series 1 E-Types. Listed in the Jaguar Heritage, this Roadster was originally finished in Opalescent Bronze with a Red Convertible Top along with the present Biscuit Leather interior . A very rare combination believed to be 1 of 2 Flat Floor models produced with the Bronze exterior paint colour . Hence , when restored in 2014 the colour change preferred to British Racing Green with the Biscuit Canvas Top . This XKE features an Upgraded Getrag 5 Speed transmission along with an Electronic distributor , Aluminum radiator with electric cooling fan . Making this roadster easily perform in todays touring standards.
With only 41,427 miles the 3.8 L 265 HP Inline Six performs magnificent with the upgrades, we do not claim it to be rebuilt as there is no documents to verify. The motor has excellent compression and does not have any oil consumption issues or inherent noises. We can provide a mechanic verification if desired .
The 5 speed Getrag transmission is simply a pleasure and an asset to the driving and performance capabilities of this 59 year old Legend ! No worry of synchro mashing with positive power distribution on the highway and country roads. As stated the rebuilt 4 speed Moss Gear Box / Serial # EB 990 JS is included with the sale.
A meticulous restoration was performed circa 2006 on this Series 1. At that time it was refinished in Hunter Green which has been passionately kept over the past 14 years. It has a deep lustrous smooth finish with only a few minor chips ( lower edge of trunk lid ). The Canvas Biscuit colour Convertible top is excellent and fits tight, operating manually with ease of motion. The interior is in original minimal wear condition and shows well . Seatbelts are present for safety. All gauges and electronics are in working order .
An aftermarket Radio / CD is present ( original radio is absent ).
This E- type has the Straight Squared rear Body Compartment behind the seats only present in the early Flat Floor build models.
All original glass and chrome are excellent and windows roll up and down as new !
Original Jaguar Wire Wheels Perfect condition with 185R / 15 Michelin Tires
The original style tool kit containing the Garrington / Jaguar wrench set is included along with a restored telescopic screw Jack with a wheel spinner knock off remover. Tonneau Cover is included.

This 1962 Jaguar XKE is a flat-floor, welded-louver Series I roadster that was built in September 1961 and was acquired by its current owner in 2014. During previous ownership the car was refinished in green and the tan interior was refreshed, and the numbers-matching 3.8L inline-six has been paired with a five-speed manual transmission. Additional features include a tan soft top, 15″ wire wheels, and a Kenwood stereo. Service in preparation for the sale included an oil change, installing an electronic distributor, and replacing the spark plugs and ignition wires. This XKE is now offered by the seller on behalf of its owner with a removed four-speed manual transmission and distributor as well as a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate and transferable New York registration.
The seller states that during previous ownership around 2005 the color was changed from its factory-delivered Opalescent Bronze to Hunter Green. Features include a replacement tan soft top and chrome-finished bumpers with guards.
Chrome-finished 15″ wire wheels are mounted with two-ear knockoffs and are wrapped in Michelin tires, and a matching spare is housed in the trunk. A tonneau cover will be included with the car, but studs will need to be installed into the bodywork for proper use.
The interior features bucket seats with tan upholstery that extends to the door panels and sides of the console. Lighter carpeting is contrasted by a black dashboard, and the textured silver console material extends to the switchgear panel on the dashboard. A Kenwood CD player is mounted in the center stack.
A wood-rimmed steering wheel sits ahead of factory Smiths instrumentation that includes a 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset clock. The odometer shows just under 42k miles, which cannot be verified. The current owner has added approximately 2k miles in six years.
The 3.8-liter inline-six utilizes triple SU carburetors as well as an aluminum radiator paired with an electric fan. The seller reportedly has changed the oil and performed a tune-up, which included installing an electronic distributor as well as replacing the spark plugs and wires. The removed distributor will be included with the car.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a Getrag five-speed manual transmission, and the removed four-speed manual gearbox will accompany the vehicle. Additional photos of the underside are presented in the gallery below, which show the early-style flat floors.
The engine-block stamping reads R1878-9 and matches the number shown on the data plate affixed to the car as well as the JHT certificate below. Photos of matching cylinder-head and chassis stampings are provided in the gallery, and the stamping shown on the removed transmission is off by five units.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists a production date of September 26, 1961, as well as the original colors, serial numbers, and delivery to New York.

Desirable Series 1 roadster with early flat-floor design
Numbers-matching 3.8-liter inline six-cylinder engine
Accompanied by JDHT certificate, owner’s handbook, knock-off hammer, and jack with bag
The E-Type offered here was manufactured on 26 September 1962 and left the factory finished in Opalescent Bronze with a Biscuit interior and red soft top, according to the accompanying Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate. It was originally distributed out of New York. This example features the earlier flat-floor design.
The car was reportedly refurbished under previous ownership around 2005 and altered to its current more traditional British color scheme of green over tan with a tan soft top. The four-speed manual transmission has been replaced with a Getrag five-speed. Further modifications include an electronic distributor, CoolCat aluminum radiator with electric fan, and an aftermarket Kenwood stereo with CD player. The 15-inch wire wheels are mounted with two-eared knock-offs and wear Michelin tires.
Under current ownership since 2014, this E-Type has reportedly been driven less than 2,000 miles. It is accompanied by the JDHT certificate, manual, spare, jack, tool roll, Jaguar protective knock-off wrench and mallet, and a period-correct four-speed manual transmission.
