Distributed through Henlys Ltd, this RHD Fixed Head Coupe 3.8 litre example was originally supplied to a Mr. Toombs of Norton in Gloucestershire via dealers' Kingscote and Stephens in Gloucester in June 1962. The vendor purchased it from the well respected Jaguar specialist Woodmanton Classics in 2005, since when it has had modest usage due to work commitments overseas. The vendor has however undertaken a series of sensible upgrades to make the car as usable as possible.

The most significant of these has been the fitment of an E-Type FABS 5-speed gearbox, a conversion using an all new 5-speed box made from billet aluminium. This unit requires no modification to the vehicle at all, even the gear stick being in the same position as the original. The new slick change is said to have transformed the driving experience. At the same time the clutch pressure and drive plates were replaced. The vendor has retained the original Moss box which is included in the sale. In addition a Classic-FABS stainless exhaust including manifold has been fitted which sounds sensational as well as liberating a few more horsepower. New 6 J wire wheels with 205 section rear tyres and 185 section fronts (to keep steering weight down) along with 4-pot front calipers also make up the specification. More recently the front suspension has been overhauled with new ball joints and track rod ends, whilst the engine uses a Luminition ignition system and a Kenlowe fan. Inside the period radio has been modified to receive FM stations and has an MP3 input.

Complete with its Heritage Certificate confirming its build dates, this prime example will have a fresh MOT at the time of sale, has been kept in a de-humidified garage and during a brief run out sounded and performed beautifully. It also has very good panel fit, a sure sign that any work that has been undertaken in the past has been done to a high standard.

The vendor is only selling to fund his daughter's wedding! Please don't spoil the girl's day - bid enthusiastically.

For sale at The Classic and Sports Car Centre, Malton, North Yorkshire. This UK matching numbers E type was manufactured on 31 May 1962 and left the factory in Carmen Red. This early E type 3.8FHC was distributed from Henlys London and the original supplying dealer was Kingscote and Stephens of Gloucester. 6691FH is the vehicles original registration mark and the car comes with a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate confirming all the original details and a comprehensive history file detailing expenditure over the years. This is a beautiful example worthy of winning shows and events. The car has been rebuilt to a very high standard, the condition is exceptional and bonnet and door gaps excellent. The paint finish is first class and the engine bay has been detailed superbly. This E type is as one would expect having been treated to a bare metal restoration. The chrome work is superb and the 72 spoke 6.5'' chrome competition wheels are new. The interior has been beautifully re-trimmed and the leather looks brand new. The carpets, headlining, dashboard, dials, door cards and webasto sunroof are in excellent condition. 6691FH does not drive like an early E type, the car has some wonderful modifications making this an incredible car to drive. Like many early E types, the brakes have been upgraded to four pot calipers and a Kenlowe fan and Luminition system have been fitted. £3,700 has been spent on a FABS 5 speed gearbox specifically made for the classic Jaguar range incorporating the standard MOSS stud pattern and spigot. Driving the E type and changing through the gears is wonderful, it is perfectly smooth with no rattles or vibrations, truly faultless and ideal for longer distance journeys. Further upgrades include a £1,600 new stainless steel exhaust system including manifolds. Since restoration one previous owner has spent in the region of £14,000 on the car and this includes seven years of maintenance to include new ball joints and track rod ends. It only covered 2,500 miles from 2001 to 2012. We sold the E type in late 2012 to a local customer for long distance touring and during this period it has covered 8,000 faultless miles. Between late 2012 and 2014 in the region of £15,000 has been spent ensuring this is one of the most superbly set up driving early E types. Recent work includes a rebuilt cylinder head with new cam followers, valve springs, camshaft bearings and re-lined valves. Preparation prior to European touring included all new wheel cylinders, and improvements include new headlining, door panels, rear arch covers and rear quarter panels. Invoices for all recent work are with the car. This is an excellent opportunity to purchase a matching numbers UK FHC. Not only is it an outstanding car to drive, it is stunning in presentation and one of the most attractive early cars we have seen in some time. £89,995.
