1961 E-Type 3.8 Flat Floor Convertible registered 1 September 1961 with outside bonnet locks and original registration number`. This car belonged to Mike Hailwood , 12 times World Motorcycle Champion. I have the original logbook with his signature Stanley Michael Bailey Hailwood. He owned 3 E-Types. I spoke to Mrs Hailwood last yaer at the Goodwood Festival to confirm authenticity amd can confirm it is correct.

I bought the car in 1983 and completely renovated it, (nut and bolt job), over two years to bring it back to it's former glory. It was MOT'd 1 May 1985 with recorded mileage of 91850 and has now covered 93849. I have all the MOTs from 1985 to date and has been kept in a centrally heated garage since new MOT, 27 July 2006 at 93849 miles.

The car is now owned by Jaguar Land Rover, and is available to drive at the Jaguar Heritage Driving Centre at Fen End Warwickshire. The hood is tatty, and there is evidence of minor dents to the bonnet.

The car can be clearly seen in the first row of the James Hull collection, bright red car. Jaguar bought the entire collection for a rumored £100 Million.

Tested VYJ 237 for classic Cars Magazine in Sept 2015 as part of Jaguar's Heritage collection. Interviewed Mike Wilds, friend of Hailwood who remembers their trips together in the car. Was one of the 56 early soft top dealer demonstrator cars photographed outside Browns Lane on 14th of July '61. Hailwood, despite being first motorcycle rider to win three Isle of Mann TT races still had to settle for a used demonstrator - which shows what demand there was for E-types in mid '61. Car is a nice driver but badly needs detailing and replacement of early pre-production parts that have gone missing over the years. Hailwood also owned Ronnie Hoare's fixed head 9555 DP.
