    Sellers comment:
This 1971 Series II E Type has 44,900 miles and is in spectacular condition and needs no work except for you to put the key in the ignition and drive. Fit and finish are breathtaking. Don't trust me, check out the Jaguar Clubs of North America's (JCNA) judging sheet in the "drivers class" from their meet in Memphis in 2001. Out of 1000 maximum points, this car rated a 996.3, couldn't be much better!

Beautiful Signal Red exterior with pristine black interior. 4.2 Liter in-line six cylinder with four speed transmission and the classic fully independent in-board rotored rear end. Top end speed advertised at 152 mph. Car was manufactured in October of 1971 and was one of the last Series II autos produced. All original car with options of five wire wheels and a/c (compressor not in car).

Documented service information: engine completely rebuilt 10,000 miles ago. The front suspension components were upgraded/replaced, clutch, pressure plate replaced, new tires, new exhaust system and more.......

Documentation, JCNA judging sheets, books manuals are included with this car. I have had many cars and this is the nicest I have had.

The judging sheet indicates this car was entered in driven class, NOT championship class. Two entriely different things. JCNA driven class does not get judged to the same standards as championship class. JCNA driven class for instance does not include under the hood points at all. The driven class score for this car was 9.963 out of 10 points. This is an average score for a driven car.

First registered in California in January 1971, this particular left-hand drive Series 2 Roadster has had just four owners from new. The current vendor acquired the car while working in America in 2003 from an Illinois collector who had owned it for seven years. He brought the car back to the UK with him in September 2007. Just prior to that the rear suspension was all rebuilt along with the rear brakes and a new stainless steel exhaust fitted.

Once back in the UK the engine was fully rebuilt in 2010 by Top Garage in Bromyard, including new pistons and bearings, reground and balanced crank and a new clutch, at a total cost of some 4,500. Four new tyres have also recently been fitted along with new front ball joints and new front brake discs and pads. The car has covered less than 500 miles since the engine rebuild and is said to drive beautifully.

The car is still fitted with the air conditioning system it had in California which is said to be in good working order, plus an additional engine cooling fan in front of the radiator giving three fans in total so it should never overheat even in our tropical summers!

Taxed and MOTd until August 2011 it is ready for a proud new owner to drive away today. It is only reluctantly being sold because the vendor has now been posted to Kazakhstan and is unlikely to return to the UK any time soon.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
