This 1972 Jaguar E-Type Series III 2+2 was built in April 1972 and delivered new to the US through British Leyland of New York. Chassis 1S73227 is said to have remained with one owner and undergone a color change to red as part of a refurbishment completed just prior to the seller’s acquisition in 1999. The car is powered by a 5.3-liter V12 equipped with quadruple Zenith-Stromberg carburetors, upgraded intake manifolds, and a PerTronix ignition system, while shifting is through a four-speed manual transmission linked with a limited-slip differential. Inside, tan leather–trimmed seats are accompanied by a wood-rimmed Nardi steering wheel and air conditioning. Further equipment includes power steering, four-wheel disc brakes, and 15″ steel wheels. This Series III E-Type is now offered in with a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, spare and removed parts, partial service records, and a clean Arizona title in the name of the seller’s trust.

The car left the factory finished in Sable and underwent a color change to red as part of the aforementioned 1990s refurbishment. Uncovered headlights, a forward-hinged louvered hood, quadruple exhaust finishers, and chrome bumpers with overriders are further details. The seller notes a dent on the right-rear corner of the bodywork and reports that one of the windshield wiper motors is not working.

The Series III E-Type was factory equipped with power steering as well as four-wheel disc brakes with inboard-mounted rear rotors. This example rides on 15″ steel wheels wearing bright hubcaps and trim rings. The wheels are mounted with 215/65 Michelin Defender rubber measuring 215/65, and a spare wheel with an older Champiro GT Radial tire is stored out back.

The 2+2 cabin features front bucket seats and a reach bench upholstered in tan leather as well as color-coordinated door panels. A replacement air conditioning compressor was installed in January 2025. The seller notes that the Pioneer AM/FM cassette stereo does not work well and recommends replacing the passenger-side seat cushion with the spare unit included in the sale.

The wood-rimmed Nardi steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline. A centrally mounted analog clock is flanked by auxiliary gauges for voltage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer has rolled over and shows 5k miles. Approximately 60k miles have been added added under current ownership.

The 5.3-liter V12 was factory equipped with quadruple Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and was rated at 314 horsepower and 349 lb-ft of torque when new. A PerTronix ignition system was installed as part of an ignition system overhaul in 2019. The seller tells us that upgraded intake manifolds with custom plates have also been added along with K&N air filters. The removed intake snorkels will accompany the car.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The transmission was rebuilt in 2002.

The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate lists factory colors and drivetrain numbers as well as build and dispatch dates.
