1972 Jaguar E-Type (XKE) 2+2 Coupe with Ford 289 Engine Conversion
This 1972 Jaguar E-Type 2+2 Coupe has had the original V-12 Jaguar engine replaced with a more reliable Ford 289 engine. The conversion to the Ford 302 did not involve any cutting of the chassis, so a Jaguar V-12 engine can be reinstalled, if you so desire. The engine is equiped with an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor. I do not have any idea what the mileage is on the vehicle or the engine.
I bought this car 3-years ago in Texas for desert road rallies around the state of Arizona. Since most of Arizona is very remote, I selected this vehicle because of the reliable and easily servicable Ford powerplant. I have another Jaguar automobile that I am interested in restoring, so I no longer have time for this one. This car turns heads and draws a crowd every time I take it out. Though it is not a trailer queen, it still gets attention.
Vehicle Condition
Body
There are no dents to speak of. As far as rust goes, I have not really found anything major. The jacking points are solid. I have had the interior door panels off, and the insides of the doors are clear. The wheel wells are clear. There is some surface scale in the spare tire well, near the drain hole. There are some minor surface spots, that are pretty typical for these cars, around the driver and passenger doors. The worst rust I have found is around the rear hatch door. It is hidden from view, but will probably need some attention when the car is repainted. I do not have a history of any rust or body repair work that may have been completed in the past. The passenger side bonnet hinge has been repaired in the past and will require some attention. Because of this hinge, the alignment of the bonnet is off by about almost an inch on the passengers side.
Paint I would rate the paint as about a 6 - about a 10-footer. The car is very drivable how it is. The paint is obviously an older overspray with some oxidation, particularly in the sugar scoops around the headlights. There are rock chips on the front bonnet, and paint chips particularly along edges by the doors. There are a couple bubbles on the top of the bonnet and one near the radio antenna. You might get away with a little touchup work and another overspray to make the car more presentable.
Chrome
I would rate the chrome as about a 6 or 7. I think all of the trim is present. There is some slight pitting and a few scuff marks on the bumpers. The headlight surrounds look good.
Lights
All of the lights look good. I replaced a couple cracked bezels on a couple lights, and I replaced the rubber gaskets around the headlights.
Rubber Trim
The trim rubber around the windows and rear bumper is cracked and needs to be replaced. I do have replacement rubber pieces and wipes for around the drivers and passengers windows, which are included in the sale. The rubber trim around the front windscreen is clearly old, and could be original.
Wheels and Tires
The tires look almost new, and should last awhile. The car does come equiped with optional wire wheels all the way around, including the spare. The wheels appear to be in solid, nice shape, though there are some marks and pitting on the hubs.
Glass
There is an L-shaped crack in the windscreen approximately 5 inches long, behind the rearview mirror. This crack does not effect visibility. The rest of the glass is fine.
Engine and Mechanicals
The engine usually starts on the first crank and runs strong. It does run a bit rough, so it will require a tune-up and some attention. The transmission shifts smooth and solid. Brakes work well.
Air Conditioning
The air conditioning system is complete and has worked. I have not tested it for more than a year, so I would assume it is not working.

Car returns to ebay 7/16/05 cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll
Current bid $5,600.00 (Reserve not met), 2 bids, 4 days left in auction. This auction is based in Hillsboro, California, USA
Sellers description:
Up for sale is my 1972 JAGUAR XKE 2+2, originally a V-12 but professionally converted to the more reliable, easier to maintain FORD 289 motor with a matching C4 transmission. The car is mechanically in great shape. I purchased this in Tempe, Arizona and drove it home to the San Francisco Bay Area in December of 2004. It never missed a beat and I drove for almost twelve hours straight, only stopping for fuel and food.
It has cold air conditioning. The body is in general great shape except for the rust on the right lower hatch. The tires and rims are in good shape too. The upholstery is very nice except for a two inch tear on the passenger seat bottom ann the inner panel for the hatch has to be reglued. There are also bare spots in the edges of the bonnet where it rests near the cowl area.
There is a crack on the center of the windshield and the windshield rubber will also have to be replaced. I purchased the car with no radio and the hole where the radio goes has been closed but the console is still on the car.
This is an excellent car to drive as is but would really benefit from a repaint to bring out its true beauty. I have a clear California title in my name and the car is currently registered.
This is one of the few V-12 2+2 bodied XKE's still available.
