Lot Number 7 Sale Number 1744
Lot Title 66,000 original miles and only two owners from new
Estimate 35,000 - 45,000 U.S. dollars
Lot Description 66,000 original miles and only two owners from new
1971 JAGUAR E-TYPE SERIES III FIXED HEAD COUPE

Chassis No. 1S72245 BW
Engine No. 7S3059 SA

Primrose yellow with tan interior

Recently unearthed following a twenty-five year hibernation in dry storage, this two owner, original California car is a real gem. Recently repainted to the original color of Primrose yellow, the panel fit is very good and the finish is understandably exemplary. The interior is original except for the headlining which has recently been replaced but otherwise shows minimal signs of use that arguably even defies the low mileage of 66,000 from new. A thorough recommissioning was undertaken in order for this Series III example to return to road use, which included a new rear muffler and resonator, fuel pump, carburetor rebuild and at great expense the air conditioning system was overhauled (a process that necessitated a new compressor and modified to accept the latest Freon.) With the 'ice cold' air conditioning, power steering, power brakes, automatic transmission and the silky V12 this coupe drives extremely well and (largely thanks to its dryness and originality) is refreshingly tight. It is our opinion that this could even be considered as an ideal daily driver; with the generous accommodation and amenities on offer, the Series III coupe is considered to be the ideal E-Type derivative for the taller custodian who may otherwise be unable to sample the joys of E-Type ownership.

Current bid US $15,100 reserve not met 5 bids 6 days left in auction, buy it now price $35,000. Car now said to be in Encinitas, California, 67k miles.

Sellers description:
A really beautiful driver quality Series 3 V-12, 5.3 liter. Runs great, very strong (this original year Series 3 has the higher power 317 hp engine). Excellent freeway tourer, does not overheat even on hot days. Looks Fabulous! Transmission, brakes, lights, electrical all work as they should. Original radio.

No receipts or documentation except Catalog from RM Auctions 2008 Monterey, lot 405 which states: "An original California car the Jaguar was placed in dry storage in the early 1970s and was returned to service in the early 2000s, at which time it was repainted in its original color of Primrose yellow and thoroughly recommissioned. The interior features its original tan leather upholstery as well as a newer headliner, and the air conditioning system was overhauled, including a new compressor and conversion to modern refrigerant. In addition the muffler and resonator were replaced, as well as the fuel pump and the carburetors were rebuilt."

I bought this car at RM Auctions in Monterey in 2008, changed all fluids, rebuilt carbs, and replaced fuel pump and tires. It now needs nothing except someone who will drive it more than I do.

This car has always been well cared for and is an excellent original example of the rare V-12 coupe.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
