Auction description:
1973 Jaguar E-Type Series III V12 Coup
Collectors' Motor Cars, Bonhams (8th September 2007)
This E-Type Series III Coup was first registered on 12th July 1973, enjoying five owners in total before coming into the vendors possession 11 years ago. The current owner purchased the car on 28th January 1996 from horologist Mr Bernard Stanforth (receipt in history file) who had owned it for about ten years, during which time a considerable amount of restoration work had been undertaken by Pro-Mod, a garage in Stoke Mandeville, Buckinghamshire. The owner of Pro-Mod (Mr Geoff Kendal) personally carried out the work and most of the relevant invoices are included in the history file, together with a photographic record of the work.
Mr Stanforth had purchased the car in December 1986 from Mr Hugh Tyler, of Towcester, Northamptonshire (see photocopy of previous V5 on file). (At that time the car carried its original registration mark WEH 737L but Mr Stanforth transferred his own cherished number BES 502 to it. This cherished number was retained and the age-related registration mark ABW 277L assigned to the vehicle when it was purchased by the current owner). Mr Tyler had purchased the car from its previous owner in Stoke Mandeville on 11th December 1980 (receipt and mileage warranty in history file) keeping the car fix six years before selling it to Bernard Stanforth.
Merritts Jaguar, of Amersham, Buckinghamshire carried out some mechanical refurbishment soon after the vendor purchased the car, and receipts for this work (totalling in excess of 2,200) are on file. Other maintenance work during the current ownership has been carried out by well-known classic car/Aston Martin specialists Chiltern Aston Centre, of Bovingdon, Hertfordshire (previously known as Car Care Works).
In its 34-year life ABW 277L has covered only 70,335 miles. This total is believed genuine and is supported by documentation and a number of expired MoT certificates. We are advised that the car has covered only 6,000-or-so miles during the current ownership and hardly any at all in the last three years. Finished in Signal Red with black leather interior, ABW 277L has the desirable manual gearbox, while the original chromed steel wheels are shod with four almost new Pirelli radial tyres. Benefiting from a recently fitted new battery, the car is offered with the aforementioned documentation and Swansea V5 registration document.

A desirable manual transmission model finished in red with original black leather interior, 'ABW 277L' is offered with the aforementioned documentation, Swansea V5 registration document and MoT to May 2009.
