The superb example presented here today was purchased by the owner in 1984. Prior to that it had remained the property of a Mr Wolf Bringham from Stratford-upon-Avon for a number of years. After its acquisition by the vendor, the car underwent a nut and bolt rebuilding costing some £40,000 by respected Jaguar specialists, XK Engineering. After that it was put on display in Scotland's largest private motor museum, The Doune Museum. Famous also for its castle, Doune castle provided the backdrop for a number of scenes from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Nothing to do with Jaguars but quite interesting anyway. It was there for 8 years after which the museum closed and the car was returned to the vendor. It was kept in a temperature controlled environment and used sparingly. In the late 1980's, it was shown at the Scottish National Jaguar Day where upon it won first class honours in the Concors D'Elegance.

The E-Type offered here is a Commemorative Edition example and remained in the careful ownership of Mr. Wolf Bringham of Stratford-upon-Avon, England before being purchased by the previous owner in 1984. It was then subject to a full restoration in the late 1980s by renowned Jaguar specialists XK Engineering at a cost of £40,000. After its restoration the car was put on display in Scotland’s largest private collection, The Doune Museum, where it remained for approximately eight years, carefully maintained in temperature controlled storage and seeing only very limited use. In was then shown at the Scottish National Jaguar Day where it was awarded first prize in the National Concours.

Like the other 49 cars, it is finished in black with tan leather interior. The car presents very well and still retains the original commemorative plaque on the dashboard. Ordered with the more desirable manual gearbox, this right-hand drive car is the rarest series production E-Type and is accompanied by its original hardtop.

As production wound down on the beloved XKE Jaguar, it was decided the last 50 cars should be “Commemorative Edition” examples. The Commemorative Edition cars were finished in black and came specially equipped with factory hardtops and a special brass dashboard plaque, bearing the signature of Sir William Lyons, signifying that it was one of the last 50 cars built.

As reported in The E-type magazine September 2019: "One of only 19 manual transmission Series 3 Commemorative Edition E-types, made in 1974 during the final run of 50 V12 Roadsters, sold at the Silverstone Classic auction for £165,000. Chassis number 2827 is the sixth of the 50 Commemorative Edition cars, which began at number 2822. Owned by a Mr Wolf Bringham of Stratford-upon-Avon, it was sold in 1984 and a few years later was restored by XK Engineering. After its restoration, the car was put on display in Scotland’s largest private collection, The Doune Museum, where it remained for approximately eight years. It was sold with history file, a Jaguar ‘Passport to Service’ and a factory hardtop".
