23,546 MILES, ON EBAY 10/07, SELLER WRITES: An exceptional example, finished in a bordeux red, with black interior seating, with a matching black vinyl soft top and boot..4 speed manual with factory air conditioning, chrome wire wheels and the legendary smooth jaguar v12 with 6 twin-throat weber carburetors...From an investment perspective, you cant lose on these vehicles..First off, there are very, very, few 1974 xke' s out there...Nationally check hemmings, collector car trader, and even ebay, you will see very few examples..CHECK PRICES...The very best are doing high 70 k range...8 out of 10 current ads I found, were all priced in the high 60k range..a couple drivers in need of a few things, were priced in the low 50 k range...For someone in the market for this vehicle, here is an excellent vehicle for your consideration..The ultra straight body is virtually rust free, having undergone a mechanical, and cosmetic restoration in the EARLY 2000'S , and driven very sparingly since then..The red paint shows beautifully, with no orange peel, fish eyes, or any other major imperfections..a couple small spots could be brush touched...a few very small areas show a tiny bit of overspray..The paint is very respectable, even to the most discriminating buyer...it is not mint or show quality, but very much better than a driver..it looks beautiful, even in the bright sun... NO swirl marks or little scratches or dings...VERY soft to the touch..the undercarriage looks excellent as well, as it should, certainly always being stored in a heated environment...The convertible top is new, but has a couple small tears on the very bottom where it meets the base of the car....very useable, as most never even put it up...The interior seats are almost as new, being replaced in the EARLY 2000'S ..showing no wear..the dash and drivers console are all excellent, with no fading or cracks anywhere...the center armrest, shift boot, e brake, glove box, door panels, interior carpeting....all excellent...the one interior issue is there is a split in the seam of the center console on the drivers side..the whole unit itself is perfect otherwise, as the seam could and should be simply repaired with adhesive...The chrome front and back is excellent...shines with very little pitting..the chrome bezels on the headlamps must have been replaced, as they look brand new...the windshield and frame look excellent.. the chrome wire wheels are also in mint condition..Mechanically, the car drives and shifts excellent and has been maintained properly...nothing has been butchered or altered in any way...I dont anticipate any major issues..the car idles and accelerates fine, with no smoke or leaks under the car... IN SUMMARY....seeing other so called perfect and near perfect 74 xke roadsters for 65-79k makes you think about the current state of the market...people get buried financially in restoring cars, but just because they paid too much...doesnt mean that you have to also..MY VEHICLE listed is the smart investment for the savy buyer...its the best color combo, has the rare 4 speed and factory air, 99 percent of the resto dollars have already been spent, and of course...its a 1974...last production year... I have tryed to describe this car as accurately as possible,,,I have bought and sold many cars on ebay personally and treat others as I would want to be treated...I certainly would not want someone to come from out of town, and find something other then described...there are no dissappointments with this vehicle...if anything, I have under-described it...In summary, here is what I believe will take this car to the next level, with very little time and money...Paint wise...a couple imperfections could be professionally brush touched......Mechanically the car could be tuned up, but again dont anticipate it needs anything major...it drives great as is..the fuel gauge and oil gauge work intermittenly and need attention..Again, you could use this as a weekend, turn key beauty and do nothing, or make a few investment quality upgrades.... ..

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
