Car was on auction on collectingcars.com. The car was not sold.
The engine has been converted from Zenith Stromberg to 6 Weber carburettors.
An elegant classic roadster, which could be an ideal ‘rolling project’ car for any Jaguar enthusiast.
Under the bonnet is a replacement 5.3-litre V12, driving the rear wheels via a four-speed manual gearbox.
The car is fitted with an aftermarket exhaust system and modified suspension.
Its chassis number corresponds to an original right-hand drive ‘OTS’ (Roadster), but the original country of delivery is not known. It is now located in Sweden.
While the five-digit odometer indicates 33,353 miles, the true mileage is unknown.
First registered in Sweden in 1993 and it is believed to have had the same owner family since.
EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES
This right-hand drive E-Type is finished in silver with a black hood and chrome trim.
The cabin is trimmed in black leather, with a wooden-rimmed aftermarket Momo steering wheel.
It rides on a set of period-correct 15-inch wire wheels, shod with Avon Turbospeed tyres.
The specification includes Smiths gauges, a row of rocker switches for the major controls, and a retrofitted alarm.
The suspension is believed to have been modified and the exhaust system is not original to the vehicle. The engine has also been replaced, and it appears to be equipped with six Weber ID48 carburettors.
Accompanying the car is the owner’s manual and spare wheel.
CONDITION
The car is offered from an estate sale via the motor trade, and the seller does not know whether any bodywork damage has been sustained during the car’s lifetime.
The paintwork is reported to be in generally poor condition, showing various chips, scratches, indentations, and areas of corrosion across the bodywork – which are well documented in the photo gallery.
The under-bonnet seals within the front wheel arches appear to be misaligned.
The cabin is also in fair to poor condition, with small holes, scuffs, and wear visible throughout.
The brakes are said to require some attention, and many of the electrics are non-functional, including the lights, cabin fan, and various instruments.
It is reported to start and run, having received some mechanical recommissioning in late 2022.
SERVICE HISTORY
The car is said to have been unused for several years, prior to being started up and serviced in October 2022. This included the replacement of the spark plugs, water pump, battery, fuel filter, fuel pumps, brake fluid, steering joints, antifreeze, and the clutch slave and master cylinders.
SUMMARY
This Jaguar E-Type Series 3 is handsomely styled British classic, with a tuneful V12 soundtrack that can be fully enjoyed thanks to the car’s convertible roof. Having sat undriven for several years, this 1970s roadster is now in need of some restoration work to bring it back to its former glory. Once completed, it should make a stylish addition to any assembly of iconic classics, as well as a characterful and crowd-pleasing cruiser for the warmer seasons.
