Auction description:
Hilton Head
1973 Jaguar E-Type Series III V-12 Roadster
Estimate: $ 65,000 - $ 75,000
Chassis no. 1S21498
5.3-liter V-12 engine
Four-speed manual transmission
British Racing Green paint
Air conditioning
Recent mechanical refreshing
Biscuit leather interior
Last year for the E-Type
Rare removable hardtop
Six side-draft Weber carbs
Excellent wire wheels
This Jaguar is equipped with desirable factory air conditioning and optional chromed wire wheels with knock-offs, plus it has an optional luggage rack. The Series III E-Type is powered by a 5,343-cc (5.3-liter), 285-bhp DOHC V-12 engine teamed with a four-speed manual transmission. Many years ago this Jaguar had the standard four Stromberg carburetors changed out to the six side-draft Weber 40 DCOE arrangement providing more power and attractive presentation. Four-wheel disc brakes are also standard equipment on this exciting British classic. Having been found in a Florida garage after approximately 10 years of storage; this V-12 E-Type has been thoroughly sorted mechanically and cosmetically by a well-known Jaguar collector and is presented in the "absolute proper colors" of British Racing Green and biscuit toned interior. The car also has the rare optional removable hardtop which is in very good condition, but does need to be repainted. The current owner has had the car for approximately 2.5 years and during this time he has pulled and overhauled the engine with new rings, bearings, guides, valves and Teflon seals. A new clutch has been installed; additional maintenance includes Petronix ignition, new wire set, new spark plugs, replacement of all belts, replace the voltage regulator, overhauled all six carburetors, new fuel tank, new fuel pump, all new hoses, replaced the boot (trunk) hinge springs and replaced the 1973-style bumper overriders with the 1971 version which are smaller in size and widely considered to be more attractive in presentation. Only 3,139 similar Series III Roadsters were built; this one is reported by its owner to currently be at its peak and will provide a fantastic platform for the next fortunate possessor to explore the style and pleasures of touring in this era of Jaguar. The Series III E-Type Roadster offers V-12 open air motoring for a fraction of the cost of similar cars of the same vintage. This is an exceptional opportunity to acquire a car from one of the last years that the E-Type was produced. With a recent mechanical refreshing, it will surely be a fantastic driver and gather significant attention at future car shows.
