Sellers description:
I’ve owned this Jaguar for two and a half years and over the course of owning it, have made several upgrades and improvements. A lot of work has gone into this car over the years with complete brake system rebuild, cooling system rebuilt, ignition upgrades, and as with any Jag, lots of maintenance! This car is a driver, not a trailer queen. It does have cosmetic imperfections described in greater detail below although it looks beautiful and presents well overall. Was originally purchased in the US. It was eventually sold and sent to Germany where it underwent cosmetic restoration and was resturned to it’s original red color. It then returned to the US for a mechanical freshening not long before I purchased it in 2005.
This Jag is not perfect, but a lot of valuable work and upgrades have been completed. I’ve tried to describe everything to the best of my knowledge below and am happy answer any questions you may have.
MECHANICAL
ENGINE
Engine is sound overall, runs great when hot, but does need to be warmed up and could use a tune and possibly a valve adjustment. If you’ve owned a carbureted Jag, you’ll know constant tuning is par for the course.
- Upgraded, Constant Energy, Electronic Ignition (No more Points!) This is an essential and expensive ($900 in parts) upgrade for any Jag.
- Replaced Water Pump
- Entire Cooling system has been gone through and it does not overheat!
- New power steering pump
ELECTRICS
Everything works, all lights and gauges. No typical Lucas “Prince of Darkness” issues here
- Replaced Voltage Regulator
- Re-Built Alternator
TRANSMISSON AND DRIVETRAIN
Transmission still has life in it, however it does have some leaks and will grind between 1st and 2nd if you race through the gears. I’m used to it and never grind the gears simply by shifting a split second slower.
SUSPENSION, STEERING AND BRAKES
Goes down the road smooth, stops strong and straight
- Completely rebuild brake hydraulic system (very time consuming, and expensive since there are two master cylinders and boosters)
- Rebuilt Calipers with SS Pistons (another essential upgrade)
- New Rotors and Pads all around
- New wheel bearings
- New front hubs
- Bushings are in good shape and the car handles tight
- Recent tires
INTERIOR
- Clean carpets with only minor wear
- Clean seats w/no tears and only minor wear on the driver’s bolster
- No Cracks in the dash
- Alpine Stereo with iPod Hookup
EXTERIOR
- Solid all around with NO RUST!
- Paint is bright, shiny and beautiful, but does have some imperfections. The front of the hood has crack and a few small dings in the chrome, the bottom of the hood is scraped from the hood flipping open while moving around our garage, there are chips around the edge of the hood, doors and rear fender and there are a few drips in the paint down low on the rocker panels, but the car does look stellar overall. Again, not a trailer queen, but certainly turns lots of heads and looks beautiful
- Chrome Wire Wheels are beautiful all around
- Chromes Is bright and without flaw although one bumper cover (Rear Passenger side) is missing although I suspect this is cheap to replace
Overall, this is a lovely car. I’ve tried to be honest with any imperfections, but anyone who buys this car and gives it the love any Jag deserves will certainly enjoy it!
