    Auction description:
    Lot 391: 1972 Jaguar E-Type Series III V12 Roadster
Goodwood Festival of Speed, Bonhams (22nd June 2007)
This splendid E-Type Series III V12 Roadster was despatched new to the USA on 6th June 1972. Repatriated to the UK in 1990, the car was subsequently restored and converted from left- to right-hand drive in the process. It was acquired in 2005 by the vendor, a qualified motor engineer and experienced Jaguar restorer, immediately following a major service and suspension overhaul at Stratstone Jaguar in Blackburn undertaken in October that same year at 49,227 miles (invoice available).
On acquisition, all mechanical elements were thoroughly examined and found not to require any replacement parts, enabling the vendor to concentrate his efforts on bringing the cars body and paintwork up to a similar standard. The coachwork was stripped to bare metal and found to be corrosion free, after which all door, bonnet and boot shut-lines were carefully adjusted and the vehicle refinished in its original livery to an exemplary standard. The interior, part of which is thought to be original, was carefully refitted; all external brightwork re-plated and new chromed wire wheels fitted. While reassembling the coachwork it was thought prudent to remove the American Federal safety lamps, thus bringing the external appearance into line with that of UK-market cars.
An automatic transmission model finished in sliver metallic with contrasting maroon interior, this freshly refurbished E-Type drives well and is most handsomely presented. The weather equipment and hood cover are in very good order and the car comes with full tool kit while further benefiting from two new tyres. EOE 946K comes with MoT to March 2008, Swansea V5C document, Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate, the aforementioned service invoice and five expired MoTs for the period November 1997 at 48,727 miles to September 2006 at 49,227. The current recorded mileage is 49,496, indicating a mere 769 miles covered in the past 9 years.

This automatic transmission example was despatched new to the USA in June 1972. It was repatriated to the UK some 25 years ago and converted then to right hand drive. In 2005, with a recorded mileage of 49,227 miles, the car had a major service and suspension overhaul at Stratstone Jaguar at which time, following a thorough examination of all mechanical elements, the then owner embarked on a coachwork and paint restoration, the car being stripped to bare metal and found to be corrosion free. It was re-finished in silver metallic livery. The red leather interior, part of which is thought to be original, was professionally refitted, all external brightwork replated and new chromed wire wheels fitted. At that stage the headlamps were modified to UK specification. The present owner acquired the car in June 2007 and continued the no-expense-spared enhancements to its condition, engaging respected Jaguar specialists, J.D Classics, to undertake further mechanical work (invoice for £15,900 on file for inspection). Further mechanical work was undertaken in 2012/14 by Classic and Sports Cars (invoices on file totalling £7,016). In addition an Opus ignition system has been fitted and the car has been furnished with a new hood.

This much cherished Jaguar is exceptionally smartly presented and has been restored and maintained in recent years by recognised specialists, during which time it has covered only one thousand or so miles. It is offered with a history folder and Swansea V5C registration document.
