Ebay item 2/06 cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll
Auction ended at $15,201, reserve not met after 34 bids. Car was later offered for $20k.
Sellers description:
The automobile you are bidding on is a 1969 Jaguar XKE Series II roadster. It has 51,429 original miles. I believe the engine has approximately 500 miles on the rebuilt original block. The rebuild was done prior to my dad buying the car. The interior is in good shape. The car has been in storage for the last 12 years. It ran great when parked, and has been started every year during the winter while parked, except for the last five years. It was in the collection of a prominent local businessman, when my dad bought it from his estate. Areas Of concern: -2 rusted spots: Drivers side in front of door, and driver’s side floorboard (cannot tell if it is through or not). They don’t appear to be all the way through but are getting there. -The paint has several chips and flakes, as you can see by the pictures. The largest are on the hood and trunk lid. The car will need to be painted. The present color is iridescent ivory. I believe it is the original color, but I am not sure. - The top will need to be replaced, or if you are really good with fabric possibly repaired. My dad intended to repair it, but became ill and passed away. -I believe the brakes will need some work, but I do not know to what extent. -Tires hold air but probably should be replaced. -I have not tried to get the car running because I am unfamiliar with working on these. This was my dad's baby. When it was parked it ran great, and each time it has been started it purred with a true Jaguar growl!
Note: I recently found out that the paint is not the original color. This color was not an option on the 1969 Jaguar XKE. The statements about the car are to the best of my knowledge.
I tracked down and talked with the former owner's son about the car. His dad was indeed a race driver, though not well known. He raced mostly Triumphs and occasionally Jaguars. This car was his dad's baby. He used it for occasional pleasure driving, not racing. The car was originally red and his dad had it painted. The paint job was originally very expensive. His dad DID have the engine rebuilt. The VIN is:1R8980.
While examining the engine further I found that the numbers are not matching on the cylinder head. It looks as though it has been replaced with an older one. It is painted a gold color. I cannot see if the numbers are matching on the engine. I believe they are between the block and firewall. The block may not be matching, I am going on information passed by my dad. I have also included a picture of the bonnet and inside of the convertible top and frame.
