Opening bid $14,000 reserve not met, no bids yet, 6 days left in auction. 42k miles.

    Sellers description:
1970 restored Jaguar XKE 2+2 coupe is finished in the highly-desirable British Racing Green and tan leather interior color combination. This XKE has Jaguar’s dependable 6 cylinder 4.2 liter/265 h.p. engine coupled to a 4-speed transmission. During the restoration process, the speedometer was replaced, so the actual mileage is unknown. The car has been driven approximately 3,000 miles since the restoration. It features air conditioning, power steering and brakes, leather interior and Michelin X Redline 185x15 tires with plenty of tread remaining, mounted on chrome wire wheels. The engine compartment is clean and detailed.

This vehicle has been owned by a knowledgeable collector of British cars since the restoration was completed and was kept in his garage other than on those nice days when he would take it to the golf course or for a drive through the Virginia countryside. This car is in excellent driving condition, starting right up and running strongly. All gauges work properly, as do the accessories.

The chrome is original to the car and shows signs of minor deterioration. There is a vertical 4” crease in the body just forward of the driver’s door caused by a careless car shipping employee that should be fixed. On the lip of the bonnet where it meets the body is an abrasion to the paint that should be touched up. There are no tears in the upholstery and the dash is in nice condition. The air conditioning belt is off the compressor, but the owner represents it is working. We are unable to confirm that fact although the compressor turns freely. In sum, this is a very nice example of Jaguar’s XKE touring sports car that has undergone an extensive restoration and has been driven only a few thousand miles since then.

This 1970 Jaguar XKE 2+2 is a US-spec example that left the factory finished in Sable over Cinnamon upholstery. It reportedly was sold new in Virginia and acquired by the current owner nine years ago. Power comes from a numbers-matching 4.2-liter inline-six paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. In 2014 the current owner had the car refinished in British Racing Green, and in 2016 the interior was redone in tan leather. Features include power steering and a dealer-installed air conditioning system, while chrome wire wheels and a Moto-Lita wood steering wheel also have been added. This Jaguar is now offered by the selling dealer on behalf of the current owner with records dating back to the late 1970s, a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, and a clean New Hampshire title.

In 2014 the body reportedly was repainted British Racing Green using a DuPont two-stage finish. Two paint chips near the rear hatch along with misaligned door and hood panels.

A set of 15″ chrome wire wheels are mounted with Goodyear Integrity tires manufactured between 2010 and 2012. Recent service is said to include new front brakes and lines, new rear brake pads, and replacement of the power steering pump.

In 2016 the cabin was redone with a new headliner, leather seat upholstery, door trim panels, and carpeting. A new windshield was also fitted. Currently the rear defroster is disconnected and the heater is bypassed to keep the interior cool on hot days.

This XKE is equipped with a dealer-installed air conditioning system, which is said to blow cold. The 5-digit odometer shows just over 48,200 miles, of which the current owner has added approximately 6k. True mileage is unknown.

The clamshell hood opens to reveal a numbers-matching 4.2-liter inline-six mated to a 4-speed manual gearbox. Servicing within the past six months reportedly consisted of fluid changes, new points, new spark plugs, and adjustments to the timing and carburetors. Other recent work included a new battery in 2017 as well as a new radiator, hoses, fuel pump, and fuel filter assembly. According to the seller a recent compression check revealed 170, 175, 175, 180, 180, and 175 psi in cylinders 1 through 6, respectively. Records dating back to the late 1970s are said to accompany the sale.

The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate states that this car was built on February 17, 1970 finished in Sable over Cinnamon upholstery and distributed through British Leyland New York. The original engine, chassis, body, and gearbox numbers are listed as well. The seller notes that this car won first place in its class at the 2017 British Invasion show in Stowe, Vermont.
