This very attractive manual transmission example was purchased new in May 1970 by an RAF Squadron Leader who kept detailed records of his ownership including every drop of fuel put into it. His extensive records accompany the car in five folders including the order form, original bill of sale and correspondence with Lord Stokes and Jaguar. In 1982 he commissioned a major rebuild including the engine, bodywork, suspension, steering and brakes. Sold after 90,000 miles in 1988, the car has had a further 4 owners and has benefitted from further mechanical and bodily maintenance which is recorded in the accompanying history. Purchased by the vendor in 2010 from Peter Jarvis with retrimmed interior, it has featured in various publications and now registers c.138,000 miles. Finished in Willow Green with green leather, it comes with V5, MoT to June 2014, assorted spares and detailed history files.

Lot 27 at Hampson Auctions sale of Classic Cars at Oulton Park on 31st August 2020. Sold for £40,500. Amended catalogue description below.
    www.hampsonauctions.com/lot-details/index/catalog/6/lot/307

The E Type offered is finished in an attractive hue of Willow Green, complimented by a Suede Green leather interior. Being a late 1969 built example, the car was sold to Squadron Leader Richard Lleyelln Thomas on 16th May 1970, the original sales invoice is copied in the amazing history file. The Squadron Leader kept the car for 25 years and kept meticulous records showing every penny spent in his ownership.

The history files cover five folders and show maintenance and expenditure records for the past 50 years, a testament to the cars history and performance. They contain the original handbooks and manuals, a JDHT certificate confirming the build details, chassis and engine numbers and a recent MoT certificate recording a pass with no advisories. The car starts and drives superbly and the speedometer shows only 47,000 miles. This should be an E Type everyone notices, simply superb is an understatement.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
