Sellers description:
UNRESTORED late 1969 series 2 coupe (NOT 2+2). This car is presented as delivered by the dealer to its first owner, including the riveted, not glued on, side molding. Heritage certificate indicates 27 August 1969 build date.

The last previous REGISTERED private owner was Peter Bohr, a Road & Track editor. He sold the car to Bob Amatore on January 2, 1989 who apparently never applied for a title. I know that because I had to use Peter Bohr's title and pay a stiff penalty here in Oklahoma to make up for the 19 years that it was never street registered. I have a statement from Mr. Amatore that he was the second owner and that Peter Bohr was the first owner, but that's patently untrue.

I corresponded with Mr. Bohr. Here is his email to me:

Mr. Neidell,
Well, I bet you paid a lot more for it than I did. I think I paid about $10,000 and sold it for maybe $12,000. That was maybe 1989 or 1990. I didn't have the car for much more than a year or so. I bought it from a young guy in Hollywood, and sold it to another guy who I believe lived in Redlands, Calif. I don't know anything more about the car's history than that.

I did indeed have the engine rebuilt at British Sports & Imports in Riverside for I think around $3,000 -- mainly to cure some oil burning. I also replaced the leather on the driver's seat; I ordered a Connoley leather kit from some Jag supplier so that it would exactly match the original.

Other than oil changes, that's about all I recall doing to it. The car didn't have any particular issues -- except for the usual Jag ones: a hot cockpit in the summer (no A/C) and oil drips. I always kept my eye on the temp gauge during hot weather.

I sold the car after it broke my finger. My little finger got caught in one of the cut-out holes in the steering wheel spoke as I was parking it. A front tire scuffed the curb and the steering wheel kicked back, snapping my finger. It eventually healed but I never forgave the car. I also needed the money to buy a house.

It was a pretty car and the body was pristine when I owned it. I hope you enjoy it -- and be sure to keep your fingers on the steering wheel rim!

Peter Bohr

As mentioned by Mr. Bohr, he had the engine rebuilt and a new clutch installed by British Sports and Imports, Riverside, CA. Date of this service was May 17, 1988, cost was $3581, mileage was 49231. Several other bills from Mr. Bohr's ownership indicate fastidious maintenance, as one might expect from a Road & Track editor. A set of (wrong-sized) 185/70x15 tires was installed at 49222 miles, which contributed to his broken finger. On July 5, 1988, Peter Bohr had the car inspected and appraised; it was valued then at $18,000.

During Mr. Amatore's ownership several half-hearted attempts were made to drive the car, but he never followed through even though the car was apparently towed two or three times to a service facility.

1R26811 then made its way to Classic Showcase, a Jaguar specialist in Oceanside, CA. Apparently the car had suffered some paint damage during storage, as Classic Showcase repainted inside the engine compartment, most of the area beneath the side molding, and one spot on the roof. They seem to have replaced the mufflers and detailed the car.

Since my purchase in January 2008 I have had the gas tank taken out and resealed and the carburetors rebuilt. This service was performed by the Tulsa Jaguar dealer. Also 4 new tires of the correct 185/15 size were fitted and new tie rod ends fitted. Basic cure for steering wheel kickback!

I've driven it about 1000 miles since purchase and had planned to keep this car a very long time. But I lost my storage!

If you're looking for a garage queen, and a 99.9 point car then look elsewhere. If you want a terrific looking coupe, in an unusual color that's really becoming, that's a blast to drive, easy to maintain, and a virtual shoe-in for awards in the Jaguar Club survivor class, then consider this car. (My wife and I have been JCNA members for many years and have shown cars both in Championship and Driven classes.)

To summarize, the car is completely original except for some repaint, driver's seat recovered, and an engine rebuild and clutch replacement. The photos show the worn leather on the passenger seat and on the console cover. The windshield is scuffed on the passenger side; I haven't had it to a glass shop for buffing. The headlight trim was improperly screwed back in (proper on Series I cars) when Classic showcase touched up the paint. I have the proper new chrome trim that will go with the car. But look carefully - NO RUST. Missing tools and papers, but has original Michelin tire as spare.

This Jag turns heads and drives superbly. For the past two years it was the feature car on the Jaguar Club stand at the Tulsa New Car Show.
