Sellers description:
1969 Jaguar XKE Coupe with 4-speed manual transmission. This is not a 2+2 model. I bought this car about 15 years ago and started to restore it. Car had a very solid body, but the driver's side rocker panel was rotten due to leaking battery acid. Had a British speciality body shop replace the rocker with a Martin Robey panel, and fix other small dents and dings while they were at it. Car was given a complete paint job by Simpkins auto body in Benicia, CA about 10 years ago. Has been stored inside since then and has sustained one dent and a few nicks and scratches as a result. Door hinges were professionally rebuilt prior to painting, and all paneIs have good fit. I drove the car home when I bought it. The brakes need to be rebuilt, but the engine ran strong and the transmission shifted smoothly into all forward gears. Getting it into reverse was a challenge, but it would go after fiddling with it. After having the body straightened out, I decided to convert the car to dual 2" S.U.s, as the existing Stromberg carbs were running very rich. Got about half way through the conversion, then got a new job that allows much less free time for tinkering. Restoration has been stalled since around 2002.
Car is 99% complete with some NOS parts (tail light housings and lenses) and quality after market parts are included in sale. I have a complete rubber kit for the car from XK's Unlimited. Interior is in good shape for its age. Seats have been recovered in vinyl at some time in the past and are not ripped or torn. Headliner is intact, but shows its age. Remainder of interior is there, but needs to be reassembled. Interior condition is very nice for a driver, but would need to be redone to bring the car to "show" condition. Should have a new dash pad installed. It's there, but not in as good of shape as rest of interior. I replaced the gas shock that lifts the bonnet
Car needs a front windshield. It is missing the plywood rear luggage panel and a couple of the chrome luggage runner strips. The upholstery for the panel is there and in decent shape. Replacement luggage panel and parts for the luggage panel are available. It may be missing one of the chrome rain gutter trim pieces as well. I have the radio console cover, but the stock radio was stolen before I acquired the car. The metal radio housing is available after market.
Car has a "new" set of Pirelli radials which were put on the chrome wires wheels just before I bought the car in 1995 and have been in inside storage since. Hard to say if they're still good, but no checking is evident on the sidewalls and the tires still look like new.
Exhaust system needs to be replaced. Chrome bumpers are all there and would look fine on a daily driver. Would need to be rechromed if you plan on showing the car, but are in better than average condition as is. All fluids were changed prior to car being stored.
Most of the hard work has been completed on this car. Would make a great short term project for someone who has the time to spend on giving the E-type the TLC it deserves.
