Current bid $4,010 (Reserve not met) 4 bids, 6 days left in auction. 80k miles on the odo.

Sellers comment:
Restoration:
The car started life as a series two, 6-cylinder coupe. When brand new (as a demo?) it suffered a minor wiring fire which damaged wiring and switches, dash and instruments, and smoked the interior. It went to a wrecking yard, where the roof was cut off and the original power train was removed. At this point I found it, a perfect body and front suspension and over the next two years I built a radical custom E-type. The car therefore has never been restored but is heavily modified.

MAJOR NOTE: These cars are very small, over 5'-11" you won't fit. I have dropped
"wells" into the floor under the seats and built modified seats to increase interior space, but taller folks beware. We shortys fit perfectly of course.

Frame:
The front tube sub-frame was widened 6", including the center of the rack and pinion. With a complete series 3 V12 rear-end, the track is now 56"- zero offset in the front wheels; wheelbase 96". There is no rust on the front tubing nor on any rear sub-frame mounting points. In a Jag the body is the frame. There have been several small holes in the sills under the doors which have been welded in and body filled. The sills and doors are sound.

Suspension:
The Chevy engine is 150lb lighter than the Jag 6, all off the front end. This makes the originally "heavy" steering lighter and easier, and reduces nose dive on braking/cornering. The V-12 rear springs/shocks are "heavier" than the 6, so spring/shock rates remain perfectly balanced. Plus thicker anti-roll bars means the car corners "flat", and can use the larger tires. Widening the front-end reduces the excessive stock front suspension camber change. (Jag ignores the Ackerman). A minor rear-end modification changes the stock rear roll/toe-out (undesirable) to more secure roll/toe-in. I recently went through the suspension and installed new tierod ends, new lower ball joints, two new rear shocks, and checked/replaced all seals and bearings. The suspension is the best part of the car- It HANDLES-it goes it corners it stops. It's very quick and still has a comfortable ride. Fuel
injection allows the engine to be undisturbed by sudden maneuvers. It never "bites" -BUT- it is very powerful.

Brakes:
I recently rebuilt the rear brakes (new pistons, seals and pads). The fronts work perfectly except they occasionally "squeal". After the original Jag master cylinder failed completely -twice- I adapted a Dodge-Girling unit which works better -the brakes are excellent.

NOTE: These are the modern Girling brakes- not the notorious, earlier, expensive Dunlops which are often sleeved - not legal for street use here in Canada.

Body:
To cover the widened suspension, the rear fenders were heavily modified- radiused, pounded and welded, and covered with body filler. Because the roof had been cut off, a stock roadster trunk was welded in. The gas tank filler has a non-stock location. The front bonnet has a series 1 covered headlight center section, and V-12 fenders which have flared wheel-wells. A small piece was welded on for the glass covers. There are several small spots of rust on the outside of the trunk floor, under the floor braces, but otherwise no rust showing on the body. All body panels and seams meet well. There are numerous dings and dents from normal use but they all can be removed in a good paint job

Paint:
There are several flaws in the paint where scratches and dents have been repaired. I rate the paint a 6 -out of 10. The car has had three exotic paint coats over the years then was sanded down and repainted plain white about 5 years ago. I consider it "O.K." for now
and a good solid base for a better coat, but since considering selling I've left it -everyone tells me how much better the car would look in a different color -and no two agree as to what color. Maybe a buyer should make his own choice. The paint is acrylic enamel.

Chrome:
The chrome ranges from a 5 (front bumpers, headlight rings, windshield trim) to a 10 (rear bumpers and wheels). The rear view mirrors are pitted. The wheels are excellent- 3 pc ultra light -10lb- Compomotives, plus spares. The tires ,Michelins, are almost worn out and there is a front wheel vibration from one that's past balancing. The wheels measure 8" and 9" by 15".

Interior:
All instruments work. Tach and speedo are custom made. The door glass is good, and is stock Jag. The windshield is good except for a 3" wiper scratch near the top; there are no cracks, stars or chips.

NOTE: the windshield is "custom"- from an Alfa, in a customized frame. The convertible top is also custom made from Jag parts -the material is one year old. The seats are also custom- see previous note about size limitations of the car.

Transmission:
The engine and transmission are from a 1993 LT1 Camaro, in excellent condition with less than 25,000 miles on them. The transmission is a 700R 4-speed automatic overdrive with a high-stall, lock-up converter, and shifts via a custom Camaro unit. The Jag posi-track differential, which can easily handle the power, has 3.31 gears (2000 rpm =67mph =excellent gas mileage)

Engine:
Chevy's best. "Stock" with aluminum heads, fuel injection, roller cam, and Corvette stainless headers. No catalytic converter or air-pump, (no gas tank vapor line, but otherwise all emission systems are intact - I believe it can meet California standards). It starts instantly, idles and runs beautifully-but-step down on the gas pedal and over
300 horsepower are instantly available at the rear wheels. The car weighs less than 2600lb soaking wet.

Exhaust:
The system is "custom" -it's new back to the center muffler, and the rest is solid though it has a few miles on it. The sound is quiet until one "steps on it"

I think the car lacks in "detailing' or finish, however it was built to go- not to be a garage queen. I regularly drove it to work in summer, but I retired last year and find I'm moving on to other things and other places- that's why it's for sale. And it definitely goes- it's a real pleasure to drive, very reliable and certainly draws reactions- I think the pictures can speak for that- and I think it looks better "in the flesh". It's very solid, though it can use a top-notch paint job, and I'd love to see it in larger 18" wheels- could look incredible- but I have to stop somewhere. I've owned it since 1970,and hope to sell it to another "driver" who can handle it. It would make a fabulous vintage racer-it's still a Jag and all cat.

Hmm, well other than the V8 engine (blech!) I kind of like the look of the car with the flared wheel whells. The wheels are sort of flashy but I bet they are a lot lighter than the original wire wheels, knock-offs, and hub combo was for unsprung weight.

Sellers description:
Trophy Winning XKE Roadster
I am the second owner of this very unique 1970 XKE Roadster. I recently finished the restoration and update of this fine automobile!
This XKE was acquired from the original owner in Canada. The drivetrain was replaced professionally by the 1st owner.
This near flawless Jag is powered by a Corvette LT 1 V8 (fuel injected) with a/t and Jag V12 rear end. The ride is incredibly smooth and powerful. This cat purrs! Engine mileage at about 24,000 miles with 49,300 total miles on the vehicle. Recent update and restoration includes:
New brakes all around, disks with cross drilled rears
Paint and body work by "Spanky's" in Phoenix (Gun Metal Gray)
Professional new interior Black & Gray ultra leather
Upholstered trunk area (see photo)
Sony CD w/ 4 Boston speakers and 700W Amp and subwoofer in trunk (see photo)
All new tires with a nice updated profile
Keyless remote door lock/unlock
Car recently won 1st Place in class at the All British and European Car Day in Scottsdale, AZ. This car was built to drive (and it is very fast), not a garage queen.
