Car was at auction 3/07
www.brightwells.com/classiccars/PastResults/tabid/321/Default.aspx

Auction description:
Body colour: Sable
Date Manufactured: 1969
Registration Number: THU 559G
Chassis Number: 1R20200
Engine Number: 7R2422-9
History:
First registered in June 1969, this particular Series II car was supplied new by Bristol Street Motors and was reputedly first owned by a director of the firm, Reg Morgan. He only kept the car for three months before it was sold to Douglas Levack of Llanwrtyd Wells who kept it for the next 12 years. In 1981 it was acquired by the current vendor who has cherished it ever since.

In the late 1980s the car was treated to a substantial body restoration which included the fitment of new sills, new rear quarter panels, new door skins, a new bonnet and a repaint in the original Sable. A full stainless steel exhaust system was also fitted at about the same time. Since then the car has only covered about 200 miles a year, mainly driving to classic car shows, and the vendor believes that the 58,000 miles on the clock is the genuine mileage covered from new – though there is insufficient documentary evidence to warrant this. A nice touch is that the car still retains its complete original tool kit.

Always garaged, always well maintained and said to drive beautifully, this is a rare opportunity to acquire what is effectively a two-owner car with a very low mileage.
Guide price N/S 18,000 - 20,000

Restored in the late 1980's and carefully maintained since. Purchased by current, third registered owner in 2009 when living in England, and imported to the US in 2010 after full engine rebuild and complete mechanical verification by renowned British Jaguar specialist, Ken Bell, formerly of Coombs Jaguar of Guilford. Correctly converted to left hand drive at that time.

Paint and body are excellent, original seat covers, new carpet. Five new wire wheels. Outstanding documentation. Beautiful to look at and drive.

Sellers description:
Jaguar E-Type 1969 Series 2 FHC - original UK car

First registered in June 1969, this E-Type Series 2 FHC was supplied new by Bristol Street Motors and was reputedly first owned by a director of the firm, Reg Morgan. He only kept the car for three months before it was sold to Douglas Levack of Llanwrtyd Wells who kept it for the next 12 years. In 1981 it changed hands again and that owner eventually entered it in Brightwells Classic Vehicle Auction in 2007 although the car was not sold.

The auction catalogue that is with the vehicle states:
"In the late 1980s the car was treated to a substantial body restoration which included the fitment of new sills, new rear quarter panels, new door skins, a new bonnet and a repaint in the original Sable. A full stainless steel exhaust system was also fitted at about the same time. Since then the car has only covered about 200 miles a year, mainly driving to classic car shows, and the vendor believes that the 58,000 miles on the clock is the genuine mileage covered from new - though there is insufficient documentary evidence to warrant this."

At some point the car was taken to the USA and converted to LHD. The last UK MOT with the car was issued on 11th October 2010 so we assume it was exported after that. We have now acquired the car and brought it back to the UK. Having just arrived with us we have not yet had time to inspect it in detail but it presents as a very clean and tidy car which drives exceptionally well.

It has with it the original green log book along with a more modern V5C and it retains its original registration number. There are 16 tax discs going back to 1970 along with the original Jaguar Owners Service Policy. The odometer reading is 71538 miles and while there is insufficient documentation to verify this there are no obvious signs that it is incorrect. The car has now been converted back to its original RHD. We have the Jaguar Heritage Certificate which confirms the engine number, gearbox number and registration numbers are all original as is the colour combination of Sable with Cinnamon trim. Overall this is a very tidy and pleasing original UK car with an interesting history. Viewing is recommended to fully appreciate its condition.

£79950.

Reg Morgan wasn’t a director of Bristol Street Motors, he was an antique dealer back then!
