Ebay item 1/6/11
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jaguar-E-Type-Roadster-OTS-BRG-Tan-Top-Roadster-Freshly- ...
Current bid $25,100 reserve not met, 7 bids 9 days left in auction. Buy it now price $43,500.

Sellers description:
Reserve is set at $32,000.
Overview
1970, british racing green, Jaguar E-Type with matching numbers and Heritage certificate. Nut and bolt restoration completed in the fall of 2010. Car has 330 sorting-out miles since restoration. Baseline restoration undertaken with intention to keep this car, but at 6’ 2”, 240 lbs, I found that I am just too big to comfortably drive it.

Built in December of 1969, car had 35,005 miles on odometer when restoration started, but speedometer cable was missing. Actual mileage is unknown. The last owner reported that he purchased this car new. He last licensed it in 1983, after which he put it away in his garage for 15 years. It was then moved out of the garage and into his driveway for the next 10 years until I acquired it.

Car is now extremely solid: from the way it feels when being driven; to the way the doors, trunk, and hood, open and close; to the way the engine runs. Engine has excellent low end torque as well as a beautiful acceleration and smoothness at highway speed.

Restoration
This car was rebuilt down to the lowest unit including electric motors, switches, steering rack, rear suspension, front suspension, etc., etc., with seals, gaskets, bearings, grommets, bushings, tie rod ends, mounts, hoses, belts, etc., replaced. Documentation on hand.

Body: Sheet metal replaced includes: sills, sill stiffeners, footwells, rear floor with jack points and radius arm cups, tunnel, floor full cross-member, rear bulkhead, closing panels, etc., all replaced with new. All hidden panel cavities were treated with 3M’s internal panel coating. Underbody and wheel wells coated in schutz/undercoat prior to painting. Paint system is DuPont 2K Urethane in British Racing Green. All door gaps are true and hinges are tight. Bumpers, overriders, and clamshells, are brand new.

Engine: Completely rebuilt. New timing chains, tensioners, main, rod, and cam bearings, rings, exhaust valves, cam followers, water pump, etc. Cylinders still at original bore with less than .002” wear. Excellent oil pressure. Stromberg carbs rebuilt. Engine starts easily, idles smoothly, and runs flawlessly throughout the RPM range. Transmission rebuilt and operates smoothly. New clutch, pressure plate, master cylinder and slave cylinder. New Bell stainless steel exhaust system. New PerTronix Ignitor II ignition module and distributor. New alternator.

Interior: New light beige leather master interior set, custom made by SNG Barratt. Seats rebuilt completely including the foam & diaphragms. New carpet and felt, with sound and thermo insulation underneath. New dash top and face, door panels, console covering, trim panels, radio fascia, visors, hardura, molding, etc. New retro pushbutton 200 watt radio with MP3 input and Pioneer coax speakers.

Trunk: New gas tank, pickup, sending unit, fuel pump. New spare tire/wheel. New panels, hardura, boot board set. New power antenna.

Brakes: New master cylinder, servo assembly, front rotors, rear rotors, pads, stainless caliper pistons, stainless hoses, fluid level sensors.

Misc: New tan Robbins top (with zipper rear window) and new Robbins tonneau cover. New chrome/stainless Dayton (15X6) centerlaced spoke wheels all around with new Kumho (205/70R 15) H-rated (130 mph) tires. New Dayton (15X5) wheel as the spare. All hub splines in excellent condition.

Configuration Items

A few reliability and usability changes have been made to this Series II E-type. Most are easily reversible if desired. Changes include:

a) PerTronix Ignitor II electronic ignition module and PerTronix HP distributor (D171600 ) installed. This ignition system works flawlessly and looks original (uses XJ6 cap & rotor). Original Lucas points distributor included with car.

b) Hitachi alternator upgrade installed. Alternator has internal regulator and works perfectly. Original Lucas alternator (operational) and bracket included with car. Original external voltage regulator and wiring still in place but not used.

c) Camshafts are of the early 4.2 XK engine type with the sound dampening oil holes in the base of the lobes (C14985 & C13081). Valve clearance with these cams is .004 and .006 vice .012 - .014. Engine runs beautifully with these cams and with very little valve noise.

d) Grant mahogany steering wheel and adapter installed. This 14 inch wheel provides larger diameter grip and much more leg room. Original 16 inch steering wheel (in good shape) and hub included with car.

e) 200 watt push button retro look (Custom Autosound) radio and Pioneer coax speakers installed. This system fits hidden in original radio/speaker locations with the original speaker covers installed. Radio and speakers look great and work perfectly. Original radio and speakers (in rough shape) included with car.

f) Six inch Dayton centerlaced wire wheels installed. These wheels fit and function perfectly. Five inch wire wheels were originally provided with the car when new although centerlaced wheels were available as an option. These chrome wheels give the car a little wider stance and appearance.

Of Note
There are a few items of note: * Spark plug wires are not routed through the fiber conduit or sleeve. New conduit and sleeve are provided with car for installation as desired. *Although bumpers, bonnet/headlight beading, bulge grill, etc., are new, a few other chrome trim pieces are worn such as the front hood chrome above the windshield which is worn down to the copper in some places. *Windshield and side windows have shallow scratching. *Speedometer reads approximately 10% high. *Electric oil pressure gauge reads approximately 40% low (secondary mechanical gage installed on engine reads accurately). *Tachometer and clock do not function (all other gages, switches, motors, and lights operate correctly). *New underdash hardura/trim boards on hand but not installed and will be provided with car for installation as desired.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
