The E Type brought high performance motoring to a much wider audience but for the first five years of production, the family man could only dream of owning one of these beautiful cars.
In 1966 Jaguar launched the 2+2 E Type, which offered increased head room, a longer wheelbase and a pair of occasional seats in the back, which could be folded away when not in use.
The 2+2 was mainly aimed at the American market but also proved popular in the UK. The family man could now have his E Type without feeling guilty.
The example offered here is a 4.2 litre, 2+2 with the optional automatic transmission, which is said to have been the subject of a major mechanical overhaul, to be equipped with new chrome wire wheels, stainless steel exhaust and is described as being in excellent order throughout.
The car is offered complete with a number of invoices detailing the overhaul of the engine, gearbox and suspension, which says the vendor, was carried out at 72, 500 miles and the car has now covered 74, 700 miles, which though not warranted, is thought to be correct.
Finished in opalescent silver blue with navy leather interior.
This vehicle may appear at the November 12th Auction at Sandown Park.

A fine-looking 1968 E-Type, `HEW 448F' is one of only 1,983 so-called Series 1.5 2+2 Coupes made. It is finished in Opalescent Blue and trimmed in Navy Blue leather. According to the vendor, "there is no rust, the panel fit and glass are very good, and the brightwork outstanding". The underside of the Jaguar was apparently sealed some years back and is in "excellent order". The car retains its original seats that have been retrimmed and, while the carpets are new, the door cards, facia and wood-rim steering wheel are "all original and in good order". The 4.2-litre XK engine has been refurbished at a cost of c.£3,000, since when the car has reputedly only covered 7,000 miles. The engine bay benefits from polished rocker covers and other detailing, while the standard exhaust system has been replaced by a stainless steel one. The automatic transmission is said to "work very smoothly", while new knock off wire wheels were fitted in 1998 and evidently remain "immaculate" - they are shod with matching "as new" Michelin tyres.

`HEW 448F' is being sold complete with an extensive history file that includes invoices and bills, original operating and service books, old tax discs and 18 years' worth of MOTs, including one valid into October 2013.
