Auction description
1967 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 4.2
Former Targa Tasmania competitor
Original engine installed but partially dismantled and not running.
Chassis number: 1E 51011
Engine number: 7E 53730-9
Bought by our vendor with the intention of adding to its competition history, which includes success in Targa Tasmania, this 1967 Series 1.5 Jaguar E-Type 2+2 coupe is currently a non-runner.
Our vendor was readying to do a refresh – the block & heads are still installed in the car – but time got away from him. The engine does have Jaguar D-Type camshafts, extractors and high volume oil pump.
Originally delivered to Henley’s of London on 22 September 1967,and registered in Bournemouth LLJ 725F , this E-Type has been in Australia for many years and successfully competed in Targa Tasmania between 1993 and 1997. It was second in class in 1995 and earned a Gold Plate in 1996.
Along the way it has been modified for this competition use, with the fitment of a five-speed Toyota Supra gearbox, a 3.54 differential, Jaguar XJ6 front disc brakes, uprated suspension springs and shock absorbers, and Minilite wheels.
Still in its original Carmen Red, this E-Type 2+2 coupe is also fitted with a fibreglass style Series 1 bonnet. It also comes with a Jaguar Heritage Certificate, a Workshop manual, an SC Parts catalogue, and a bit of a history file.
This is a great opportunity to return a classic E-Type to the road and enjoy its enhanced performance and handling.
The options are there to either rebuild and retain the original engine, or install another 4.2 engine and set aside the original.
Either way, it should make for an exciting project without breaking the bank.
