This 1967-manufactured E Type S1 2+2 fixed head coupe with Webasto sunroof was the subject of a five year restoration completed in 1995. A comprehensive photographic record of the work carried out is included in the history file. Full floor pans, boot floor, lower rear wing sections, rear wheelarches, sills, driver's door and passenger door skin as well as the entire front bonnet assembly were renewed. All brightwork was rechromed and tinted glass renewed.
Meanwhile, the 4.2-litre 6-cylinder engine was rebuilt and rebored +0.020. Bearings, pistons, valves and guides, water pump and timing chain were renewed. The flywheel was refaced and a heavy-duty 10.5in clutch fitted. Front anti-roll bar and dampers were replaced and rear springs, mounts and shock absorbers renewed.
During the refurbishment, significant mechanical upgrading took place, including the fitting of a Getrag 5-speed gearbox with machined adapter plate, ventilated disc brakes with 4-pot calipers at the front and large-pad rear calipers, heavy-duty Kenlow fan and inertia-reel seat belts installed. The condition of the car, says the owner, is excellent with very good paintwork in Cranberry Red and interior retrimmed in magnolia with dash panel refinished in walnut veneer and head restraints incorporated into the front seats. He says that the car has done less than 6000 miles following the rebuild and that the car, which is thought to have covered a total of around 54,000 miles since new, is MOT tested until next May.
