This 1966 Jaguar XKE Series I fixed-head coupe was refurbished under prior ownership in the 1980s including a repaint, replacement of the interior upholstery, and an engine rebuild. The car is finished in maroon over color-coordinated vinyl and is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. The seller acquired the car out of Colorado in 1995, and subsequent work included rebuilding the carburetors and refreshing the fuel, cooling, and brake systems. Equipment includes triple SU carburetors, 15” wire wheels, chrome bumpers, a side-opening rear hatch, and a Blaupunkt AM/FM stereo. This E-Type is now offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, manufacturer’s literature, workshop manuals, service records dating to 1983, and a clean Minnesota title in the seller’s name.
The body was stripped and repainted in its current shade of maroon in 1983. Features include a louvered hood, a driver-side mirror, clear front turn signal lenses, pop-out rear quarter windows, a side-opening rear hatch, split chrome bumpers with guards, and center-mounted exhaust outlets with chrome finishers. A ding in the passenger door, two blended repair spots on the rear hatch, and bubbling paint on the left rear wheel arch and left rocker panel are shown up close in the gallery.
Chrome-finished 15” wire wheels are secured with two-eared spinners and are mounted with Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. A matching spare is stored in the trunk along with a jack and a knockoff mallet. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear units. Braided stainless-steel flex hoses have been fitted, and the primary brake cylinder and vacuum booster were rebuilt in March 2022.
The cabin has been reupholstered in maroon vinyl and features a wood center instrument panel and shift knob. Additional equipment includes a Blaupunkt AM/FM stereo, lap belts, and black carpets with maroon binding. The heater core is said to have been rebuilt and the control valve replaced in 2022. The headliner is sagging.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 160-mph speedometer as well as a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline and inset clock. Auxiliary gauges are mounted in the center of the dash. The five-digit odometer shows 63k miles, approximately 200 of which have been added under current ownership.
The 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six features triple SU carburetors and was factory rated at 265 horsepower and 283 lb-ft of torque. The cylinder head and engine block were rebuilt during the refurbishment, the fuel tank was relined in 2005, and the carburetors were rebuilt in 2020. Work performed in 2022 included the installation of a replacement fuel pump, thermostat, header tank, and coolant hoses.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The clutch was replaced in 1990, and work performed in 2022 included replacing the clutch secondary cylinder, flex line, and primary cylinder reservoir. The car features stainless-steel headers, and the exhaust hangers are said to have been replaced in 2022. The seller notes leaks at the speedometer cable as well as the differential axle shaft seals and recommends replacing the rear wheel bearings.
A Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate shows the original configuration and colors along with serial numbers for the chassis, engine, body, and gearbox.
