This 1966 Jaguar XKE Series I coupe was sold new from Frank Millard Sports Cars of Encino, California and was acquired by the selling dealer in 2023, reportedly from its previous owner of 50 years. Subsequent refreshment included the installation of an electric cooling fan, Pertronix electronic ignition, and a stainless-steel exhaust system as well as replacement of the cylinder head gasket, heater core, battery, spark plugs, front shocks, steering components, and brake booster. It is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six linked to a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Finished in Cream over black leather, the car is equipped with enclosed headlights, 15″ wire-spoke steel wheels, power-assisted disc brakes, triple windshield wipers, an AM/FM radio, and Cool-Aire air conditioning. This XKE Series I coupe is now offered in Cornelius, North Carolina by the selling dealer with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, the owner’s manual, service records, and a clean Nebraska title.
The Series I E-Types were equipped with covered headlights and taillights mounted above the chrome rear bumpers. This example came finished from the factory in Cream and was repainted under prior ownership, while additional paintwork was performed by the selling dealer on the rear hatch door and rust on the rocker panel below the battery box was repaired. The doors were also adjusted.
The 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and are mounted with Michelin X Redline Radials tires measuring 185-15. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors, and the brake booster, front calipers, lines, and switch were replaced by the selling dealer. Additional work involved replacing the outer tie rods, upper ball joints, steering rack mounts, and front shocks.
The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in black leather along with color-coordinated door panels and carpets. Interior appointments include black vinyl dash trim, a sliding rearview mirror, an AM/FM radio, and a Cool-Aire air conditioning system, which was repaired and converted to R134a since the selling dealer’s acquisition.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and 6k-rpm tachometer, while auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are located in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 43k miles. The speedometer cable and angle drive were replaced in preparation for the sale.
The 4.2-liter inline-six features triple SU carburetors and a replacement cylinder head, and it was factory rated at 265 horsepower and 283 lb-ft of torque. PerTronix electronic ignition and an electric cooling fan were installed following the selling dealer’s acquisition, and additional work involved servicing the carburetors, repairing cracks in the cam covers, and replacing the cylinder head gasket, head studs, heater core, battery, spark plugs, and ignition coil.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a full-synchromesh four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Work following the selling dealer’s acquisition included replacing the clutch slave cylinder, cleaning the underside with dry ice, applying an undercoating to the chassis, and installing a stainless-steel exhaust system. The heater box was also repaired with a replacement metal panel.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate shows the original colors and drivetrain numbers as well as the build and dispatch dates.
