This 1965 Jaguar XKE Series I coupe was acquired by the current owner in 2004, and it has been modified for racing use and has been utilized in various HSR and VARA events. Build highlights include a fiberglass hood with integrated rally lights, polycarbonate windows, a roll cage, a fire suppression system, and a 22-gallon fuel cell. The modified 4.2-liter inline-six is equipped with triple SU carburetors and linked to a five-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Finished in Carmen Red over gray, the car rides on 15″ American Racing wheels and GAZ adjustable shocks. The interior houses Ultra Shield aluminum racing seats with harnesses, a quick-release Grant steering wheel, and AutoMeter gauges. This XKE Series I coupe was last raced in the Chihuahua Express in 2015 and is now offered on dealer consignment at no reserve with a spare transmission, a steel hood, service records, additional spare parts, and a clean Arizona title.
The car was fitted with a fiberglass rally-style hood with integrated driving lights and repainted in Carmen Red in 2014. A polycarbonate rear window and side windows have been added, and the bumpers have been removed.
The 15″ alloy American Racing wheels are mounted with Toyo Proxes tires measuring 225/50, and a matching spare is housed in a rally-style mount in the cargo area. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors. GAZ adjustable shocks have been added.
A roll cage surrounds the cabin, which houses Ultra Shield aluminum racing seats with gray fabric covers and RaceQuip harnesses. An aftermarket shifter has been installed along with a race radio, helmet pouches, a Monit G-200 rally computer, a Sportline stopwatch, and a Grant steering wheel mounted on a quick release. The seller notes that some of the safety equipment is out of date.
Instrumentation includes a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and an AutoMeter tachometer and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 89k miles, approximately 1,300 of which were added under current ownership.
The replacement 4.2-liter inline-six was reportedly rebuilt prior to the Chihuahua Express race in 2014. Induction is through triple SU carburetors, and additional highlights include the following components:
Performance camshafts
10:1 compression ratio
Spin-on oil filter
Aluminum radiator
Electric cooling fan
Engine oil cooler
Cable-operated accelerator linkage
Gear reduction starter
MSD electronic ignition
Tubular headers
Custom stainless-steel exhaust w/resonators
22-gallon fuel cell
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a JT5 five-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. A heavy-duty clutch and an aluminum flywheel were installed around 2014.
A steel hood is included in the sale, along with a four-speed manual gearbox, triple Weber carburetors, a spare wheel, exhaust pipes, an intake manifold, and tubular headers.
