This 1965 Jaguar XKE is a Series I coupe that was acquired by the current owner in 2014 and subsequently underwent a multi-year restoration that was performed by Lippincott’s Garage of Sinking Springs, Pennsylvania and completed in 2018. Work included a bare-metal repaint in red and re-trimming the interior in black leather, along with rebuilds of the 4.2-liter inline-six and four-speed manual transmission. Additional equipment includes triple SU carburetors, Koni shocks, a stainless-steel exhaust system, 15” wire wheels, and a Moto-Lita steering wheel. Service performed in April 2022 consisted of a brake fluid flush and replacement of the spark plugs and fuel level sending unit. This XKE coupe is now offered on dealer consignment in New Jersey with restoration records and photos, and a clean Virginia title.

The car was disassembled, taken to bare metal, and refinished in red during the restoration process. Metalwork was performed on the right-rear fender and driver-side footwell at that time. Exterior details include chrome bumpers with overriders, a driver-side mirror, a vented hood, headlight covers, and dual exhaust outlets.

Chrome 15” wire wheels wear Jaguar-branded two-eared knockoffs and are mounted with 225/60 Kumho tires that show 2016 date codes. During the restoration, the suspension components were refurbished and painted, the brake calipers were replaced, and Koni shocks and stainless-steel brake lines were installed. A brake fluid flush was performed in April 2022.

The interior was overhauled with reupholstered black leather seats, along with matching replacement carpets and door panels. Appointments include lap belts, a woodgrain shift knob, toggle switches, and a folding arm rest. A full size spare tire is housed under the rear cargo area floor. The ignition switch was replaced in April 2022.

A wood-rimmed Moto-Lita steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 160-mph speedometer and a 5,500-rpm tachometer with an inset analog clock. Additional instrumentation in the center stack includes gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage. Both the speedometer and fuel level gauge were repaired in April 2022. The five-digit odometer shows 57k miles, though total mileage is unknown.

The 4.2-liter straight-six was disassembled and rebuilt during the restoration process and features top hat cylinder sleeves, Mahle pistons, and rebuilt triple SU carburetors. Service performed in April 2022 consisted of replacing the fuel tank level sending unit and spark plugs, along with an oil change and fuel tank flush.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission that was also rebuilt by Lippincott’s Garage. A stainless-steel exhaust system has been installed, additional photos of which are presented in the gallery, along with images of the suspension, brakes, wheel wells, and chassis.

Photos from the restoration are provided below, along with receipts from Lippincott’s Garage that total over $148k.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
