Auction description:
Lot No. 113
1967 JAGUAR E-TYPE SERIES 1 4.2 LITRE FIXED HEAD COUPE
This beautifully presented Signal Red E-Type Series 1 4.2 litre right hand drive fixed head coupe was built on the 7th December 1967 and sent to Westco, Brisbane on the 18th January 1968 for its first owner, Mr Barry L. Sweet of Brisbane. In current ownership for the last thirty-five years this car has extensive history files and documented mileage of less than 65,000 miles, having covered less than 20,000 miles since purchased in June 1975.
In 1978 after a brief sporting history that included first in class at Amaroo Raceway and the Silverdale Hill Climb, the head of engine number 7E 15266-9 was removed and the car fitted with reconditioned valve guides, new valves, timing chain, rings and bearings, seals and water pump. Between 1980 and 1982, the body number 4E 26703 was rebuilt along with a bare metal re-spray, seats recovered, new rubbers fitted and other work carried out.
From 1995 -1997 the car was repainted again and from 1997 until the end of the century the car was rewired from the fire-wall forward; a new clutch was fitted; the gearbox overhauled; brakes and boosters reconditioned with stainless steel sleeves. At this time rear hubs, new bearings, new rubbers were also fitted and the radius arms overhauled. The underbody floor was re-treated and painted and a new exhaust system fitted. In 2004 electronic ignition, the only non-original factory item to the car was fitted, whilst the radiator was reconditioned in 2007 and the fuel tank removed and chemically treated in 2008.
Testimony to the work and loving care that this car has received at the hands of its custodians is borne out by the following display history: Jaguar Drivers Club of Australia - Club Championship 1981 Jaguar Drivers Club of Australia - Concourse, 2nd in Road Class 1982 Jaguar Drivers Club of Australia - Concourse, 1st in Road Class 1983 Thoroughbred Sports Car Club - Concourse, 1st Overalll 1984 Thoroughbred Sports Car Club - Club Championship 1988 Thoroughbred Sports Car Club -Canberra Federation Display 2001 Oberon Show Society - 1st Place Historic Cars 2004 Bathurst Historic Car Club - 1st Place 1960/69 Section 2004 Bathurst Historic Car Club - Best Vehicle 2005 Albury/Wodonga Antique Car Club - Best Sports Car 2007 Oberon Heritage & Steam Show - 2nd Place outright of 247 vehicles 2009
This is an ideal opportunity to acquire a highly desirable E-Type Series 1 coupe in fine condition complete with certifying Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust provenance.
