Note: its assumed the digit following 1E is "1" rather than 7 as presented. A 7 is not valid for an E-type number.

Auction description:
Fine Motor Cars
Blenheim Palace, Woodstock, Oxfordshire
Saturday 5th July 2008
Lot 440
1965 Jaguar E Type Series 1 4.2 Fixedhead Coupe
Registration no: DCJ 670C
Chassis no: 1E70288
Estimate: £17,000-20,000

The E-Type we are offering here today is a 4.2 Litre fixed-head coupe, finished in Carmen Red with a black leather interior. The car has had only five registered keepers since it was built in 1965, and has completed a total of just 55,000 miles, 10,000 of which have been clocked up since 1985.

The car is in perfect mechanical condition, with a strong and quiet engine which benefits from having had an uprated cooling fan fitted, which helps to counteract some of the heating problems early E-Types have been known to suffer from. It also comes complete with a substantial history file including invoices and MOT certificates dating back to 1985.

While not in concours condition, this car drives very well and represents excellent value for money for anyone looking to purchase a Series 1 E-Type.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
