Up for sale is this 1968 Jaguar XK-E Series 1 ½ Roadster, finished in Royal Blue with a blue vinyl top and blue leather interior, powered by a 4.2 liter inline six-cylinder engine driving the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.
This excellent example of the original XK is a two-owner car, with low mileage and a thoroughly documented history, is in concours-ready condition, needing nothing to be ready for the next owner.
Originally purchased on March 2 nd , 1968, the owner covered 24,065 miles with this XK-E, keeping it garaged and stored for its entire life. When the second and current owner purchased it on February 24 th , 1989, it was kept in a climate controlled garage, and maintained by British specialty shops in the Carolinas. In 2003, a full cosmetic and mechanical restoration was performed by Von’s Restoration in South Carolina, and the XK has been maintained in concours condition since that work was performed.
All service records are available from 1989 through to the present. Extras included with the sale includes the jack, hammer, tool kit, owner’s manual, and maintenance manual.
EXTERIOR DETAILS
The full restoration included stripping the exterior down for a full refinish in Royal Blue, color code LRC026. The finish is in excellent condition, with tight panel gaps, and consistent color tint across all sections. All chrome trim was restored or replaced during the restoration, and remains in concours-ready condition. All lights and lenses are in like-new condition, and in proper operating condition.
The blue vinyl, manually operated convertible top is in excellent cosmetic condition, taut and with no color fade, and the plastic rear backlight is clear and free from cloudiness or fade.
INTERIOR DETAILS
The blue leather interior of the XK is in excellent condition. Color tint and wood lacquer are both free from color fade, with some patina and evidence of use on the driver seat surface. Touch points like the door handles, steering wheel, and shifter are all clean and free from blemishes and defects. Instrumentation and switchgear were all rewired and upgraded where necessary during the restoration, and all are in proper working condition.
MECHANICAL DETAILS
The work performed in August of 2003 was a complete, concours-level cosmetic and mechanical restoration. This included a compete engine rebuild with new electronics, clutch, fresh rear axle gearset, brakes, and suspension. The cosmetic work involved keeping the important aspects of the model consistent, replicating original colors and parts where possible, and taking care to keep or replace all original hand-made makings. Full documentation of the work performed is available for review, and will also be included with the sale.
In 2008, the XK was entered in Virginia Jaguar’s Brown’s Island Concours d’Elegance, and was awarded first in class with a 99.58 point value.
This XK-E has been stored in a climate-controlled environment since its restoration, only driven 1308 miles in that time, and has been kept in excellent operating condition.
Asking Price $125,000
