This 1966 Jaguar XKE Series I roadster was built in May 1965 and dispatched to New York. The first two owners are said to have resided in Oklahoma, where the seller purchased the car in 2022. Refurbished under prior ownership between 1998-2003, the car has been repainted in red with a tan soft top over tan leather upholstery. Power is supplied by a 4.2-liter inline-six linked to a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential, and equipment includes enclosed headlights, 15″ wire-spoke wheels, power-assisted disc brakes, triple windshield wipers, and an AM radio. This XKE roadster is now offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, manufacturer’s literature, a parts catalog, service records, spare parts, a tool kit, and a clean Oklahoma title in the name of the seller’s family revocable living trust.
Series I E-Types were equipped with covered headlights and taillights positioned above the chrome rear bumpers. Finished from the factory in Dark Blue, this example was repainted in Carmen Red during the refurbishment, according to the seller. Equipment includes a tan soft top, a matching top boot, a louvered clamshell hood, wraparound chrome bumpers, bright trim, a driver-side mirror, triple windshield wipers, and dual exhaust outlets.
Chrome-finished 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and are mounted with 185-series Michelin XVS tires. A matching spare wheel with a Dunlop Road Speed RS5 tire are housed in the trunk compartment. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors. The brake master cylinder was rebuilt and the brake hoses were replaced in recent years, the seller tells us.
Originally trimmed in black, the cabin has been reupholstered in tan leather, which is complemented by color-coordinated door panels and carpeting. Interior appointments include black vinyl dash trim, a tan center armrest, a sliding rearview mirror, a Blaupunkt AM radio, and a heater.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer, while auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are located in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 54k miles, less than 50 of which were added under current ownership. The seller states that less than 2,700 miles have been added since 1998.
The 4.2-liter inline-six features triple SU carburetors and was factory rated at 265 horsepower and 283 lb-ft of torque.
The cylinder-head stamp reads 7E4149-9, which matches what is noted on the car’s identification plaque and on its heritage certificate.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a synchromesh four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate shows the original colors and drivetrain numbers as well as the build and dispatch dates.
